It's nothing special.,

If there are strong FM broadcasts in your area, up to 165 MHz, you might pull them in with this inexpensive radio. It has no memory presets. You might try it out to see whether there is enough VHF activity in your area to justify spending £60-80 on a nice set. That's about what it's good for. It's entry-level kit, worth £15 or so to see whether fancy kit is worth having.

Hopeless radio except on standard FM. The tuner bandwith is too wide in order for the unit to receive PMR/Marine and other stations selectively. If you attempt to tune to frequency 156.800 (calling channel on marine) you'll also get other channels stacked on top. Also Airband is AM modulation but this radio is only set up for FM modulation. The set is really only tuned for music FM banwidth. Better to buy a dedicated radio scanner.

Having once owned a manual tuning airband radio,I am delighted to own this model.Reason is that I have more exspensive scanners, but when I need to quickly hear air transmissions that are in progres, then my scanners are just to slow to detect them. The benefit of a manual tuner is I can detect quicker, rather than waiting for a digital scan,& is often missed..So I can strongly recommend this radio, purely because it is a manual radio.

It might not be a digital one but its really good. if you live in built up area you can still hear the planes in the sky. and listen to fm radio which is good and clear. i listened to buses,cb radios. thats about it at the momment. THIS RADIO IS REALLY GOOD AND SIMPLE. BUY IT.

Not a very good buy. This item is both bulky, and has a very cheap feeling to it; this is reflected in the price. However for anyone who is heavy handed or a child's first multi frequency radio it is cheap and financially viable to replace if lost or broken.

The ICON-3 Multiband radio is a very good entry-level receiver. It has a very powerfull speaker, a nice "bulky" feel with a tough, rugged casing. Reception quality is good, except near built up areas. The weather band (162.5) is usually for the USA only (in my opnion)Make sure the squelch control is set to maximum.

Nearly impossible to tune.,

The knob fails to turn the tuner (it's one of those pieces of string wound round a pulley types), and the scale is so tiny and approximate that you have no idea what wavelength you're listening on. I should have paid more for one with digital tuning.
