5.0 out of 5 stars Hooray!
More Goodies! The complete ITV series! The classic 'Bigfoot' episode! Yay!!

Okay, of the final series it has to be said that 'Bigfoot' is probably the best episode. It's a skit of the equally ancient 80's programme 'Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World' in which Graeme plays Arthur who merrily debunks every possible supernatural phenomenon going (just like...

3.0 out of 5 stars Much maligned, but not entirely unfairly...
When the Goodies switched channels to ITV for what was to be their last series, the series seemed to suffer. In reality, of course, there was a mixture of gems and duds, as with any series as long-running as theirs. Unfortunately, the first series they made was badly scheduled and, relative to their BBC best, on the weak side. As plus points there were "Change of Life"...

As plus points there were "Change of Life" and "Robot" but the remaining shows were weaker and fared badly in the ratings.

As the "end of the Goodies" this is a somewhat lacklustre showing. It's *not* as bad as popular memory makes it but it's not the best work they produced either. Nice to have it out at last and a reasonable package of extras, but I'm waiting for more BBC shows with baited breath.

More Goodies! The complete ITV series! The classic 'Bigfoot' episode! Yay!!

Okay, of the final series it has to be said that 'Bigfoot' is probably the best episode. It's a skit of the equally ancient 80's programme 'Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World' in which Graeme plays Arthur who merrily debunks every possible supernatural phenomenon going (just like the original series, really!) with utterly crackpot explanations (The Loch Ness Monster is actually an elephant balancing a french baguette on it's trunk with a tortoise balancing on that - or some such loony fob off) whilst UFO's land behind him to refuel at Stonehenge. And when Tim and Bill are convinced that Arthur C. Clarke is equally as mythical they go on a quest to find him, leading to Tim transforming into Bigfoot...yes, it IS as stupid and as whacked out as it sounds which is why it has stayed in my head for so long.

The Goodies swansong is filled with some great moments - perhaps not their greatest moments - but enough to satisfy until the complete BBC series is finally released. Someday. Maybe??

4.0 out of 5 stars THE 'GOODS' DELIVER...., 7 Mar 2008

This is the only official complete series of the 'GOODIES',and contains the usual mixed bag of out-and-out gems, with one or two reheated themes........overall, the standard is high enough to warrant purchase; picture/sound quality is fine, gag-quota is high, with many elaborate visual stunts of which this team is celebrated.
One episode: 'HOLIDAY' --is studio-only, which affords textured interplay within the team.

Apparantly, this series of 7 25-min shows reportedly cost as much as the entire BBC output of 70 shows.....GO FIGURE!

VISUALLY impressive as ever, with only token ITV 'forced laughter' from the studio audience. This show translates to the commercial channel far better than other COMEDY exports. ----FINE.

3.0 out of 5 stars Gum...gum..., 10 Mar 2007
This review is from: The Goodies - The Complete LWT Series [DVD] (DVD)
These are currently being shown on a Sky satellite channel in Europe, so you could feasibly watch 'em all before buying the set. You wouldn't regret it if you did buy them, because although their stint at London Weekend Television wasn't as fruitful as their time at the BBC, the Goodies still produced some excellent and inventive stuff. In 1981 LWT spent a lot of money on the series, and you can certainly see where it all went. Viewers from Generation X (born after 1980) may be disappointed, but if you're over 30 and recall well British TV shows of the 70s and early '80s, this will be a delight to behold.

This is the third collection of Goodies episodes from Network, the others being 'At Last' and 'At last A Second Helping'. The 'Robot' and 'Bigfoot' episodes are certainly as good as much of their output at the BBC. Confining this collection to the LWT series however has resulted in a considerably shorter programme (175 mins as opposed to 255 and 240 minutes). The additional features are all on the second disk, and are a mixed bag. The Goodies Music Performance Archive gives us live performances of five of their songs, including 'Funky Gibbon', a feature noticeably absent (with one exception) from the earlier collections. There is also an interview archive and, bizarrely some amateur footage of Tim judging a Turkey competition! (This last item comes into the catagory of being so bad it's good. Nevertheless you won't want to watch it more than once.)The disc also features complete episodes of 'From the Top' and 'Doctor In The House'. Both featuring input from one of the Goodies, but Graeme's appearance in the latter is so brief that if you blink you'll miss it. Incidentally, those people who think that 'The Goodies' is dated should watch this episode of 'Doctor In The House' to see what the word really means!

As with the previous collections this comes complete with an informative 28 page booklet. The previous collections however had been digitally restored; this one hasn't and, although the quality is not that bad, it does show. There are still about 40 or so episodes from the BBC years still to be released on DVD, including the whole of series' 3 and 6. While we wait however, this collection is a welcome addition to the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than people would have you believe., 20 April 2010
This review is from: The Goodies - The Complete LWT Series [DVD] (DVD)
The general consensus is that this series is not as good as the BBC ones, but after watching it again, years later, it is far better than people would have you believe with a couple of episodes that are real classics.

There are loads of cultural references that younger viewers may not get (ie: Arthur C Clarke's Mysterious World) but the slapstick humour and silliness you would expect from the Goodies is as great as ever.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad Goodies, 4 Jun 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Goodies - The Complete LWT Series [DVD] (DVD)
Out of the seven episodes i do not like Animals or Football crazy that much but they are ok.
My favourite episode is Holidays because it is really funny when Graeme dresses up as a crane, when Bill plays spat and when Tim sings "Oh i do like to be beside the seaside".
I also like Robot especially when Bill dresses up as a girl.
The second disc of extras is interesting. I love watching Funky Gibbon, it is funny to see Bill and Tim really enjoying themselves but poor Graeme, my favourite Goody, looks a bit embarrassed and does not really want to be there!
All in all a lovely present from my Daddy which i watch over and over again driving him mad!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Goody of a DVD, 9 July 2010
This review is from: The Goodies - The Complete LWT Series [DVD] (DVD)
Being Canadian, I had never seen this series; the CBC hadn't obtained it from the BBC. "Snow White part 2" was especially good, being somewhat reminiscent of 'Benny Hill' - good cheeky humor.

Any Goodies fan should absolutely get hold of this DVD - bonus materials include several single episodes from other series where Goodies appeared as individuals, as well as some of the music numbers they did. "Wild Thing" being probably the best, "Funky Gibbon" being disco-era.

North Americans of course would need to find a way to bypass the regional code. It is not difficult at all with a little internet research; since regional coding is an unethical and probably illegal practice anyway.
