You have NO IDEA how many years I have been waiting for this. I can not belive that finally the COMPLETE As Seen On TV is now on DVD. This WAS the best sketch show of the 80s. It is Victoria Wood at her best. EVERYTHING is here. It's so lovely to have it. It is wonderful. No more do I have to cope with the scratchy video compilation best ofs. Because finally we have all of it, All 12 episodes and the TV special.

Utter marvellous.

Thank you!

Victoria Wood, never fails to surprise me. Her ability to create comedy classics is faultless. This video, which includes clips from her award winning television show "as seen on Tv" is her best yet. With all the best characters, this video is a must by for not just her loyal fans but for everybody who loves classic comedy.

This dvd can always been relied on to cheer me up, even though I must have now watched most of the sketches at least a dozen times each. Unlike most modern sketch shows which rely on repetitive catch phrases and the same characters and jokes every single week, As Seen On TV brought us different characters throughout both series, and only a few such as Kitty, Margery and Joan, Kelly Marie (an early Vicky Pollard) and Gail and Carl appear more than once. The only re-occuring sketch each week is the brilliant Acorn Antiques and the continuity links from the fantastic Susie Blake "Don't sit too close to the screen or I might poke you in the eye". The spoof documentaries are also way ahead of there time, and it's quite obvious as to wear inspiration for The Office came from.

There are a few dodgy sketches and jokes, and a couple of songs which don't quite fit in. "Go Away" is particularly cringe worthy, as are ome of Victoria's outfits and hair styles, but the sheer brilliance of the rest means that this still deserves five stars.

If I had to pick my top 10 sketches, I'd probably choose:

In The Office. "Oh no. her ears are in the wrong place for a polo neck"
Self Service. "Don't touch the gateau. I just saw her scratching her armpit with the cake slice."
Shoe Shop. "We think we've got hens in the skirting board."
Bingo Hall. "Well, we've got a full house since Bill come home. Don't go shouting about it."
Coronation Street. "Put a pikelet in it Martha Longhurst and you might hear something to your own advantage."
Kitty. "All this in a voice loud enough to blow the froth off a Horlicks two tables away."
Flatmates Documentary. "Well I'll squeeze the washing-up liquid but I can't see why I should get it out of the cupboard!"
Mrs Overall's death scene in Acorn Antiques "She's choking on her own macaroon!"
The Shopping Song "I've walked the length and breadth of every floor, and there's not one beige candlewich pedestal mat in this whole darn store".
The Chippy Song. "Where the salt stings and the vinegar is drippy."

Just typing these make me laugh, and I could probably list a lot more. Buy it now!

Victoria Wood is a national treasure whose comic timing and talent for almost flawless lines is legendary. This is really when people saw the full extent of her abilities. Her little, 'rep' ensemble of actors shows a sublim skill in itself because she obviously writes specifically for them. Can you think of anyone other than Julie Walters playing Mrs Overall?

She was wise not to follow these two series with more of the same, ending on a high note was a touch of genius that has had and still has them coming back for more. These episodes launched the careers of many actors such as Celia Imrie, Duncan Preston and Patricia Routledge. It is curious that many of Victoria's little team have found fame and work from Alan Bennet whom I feel has a similar ear for the northern idiom.

Picture quality is I suppose, as good as you'll get from 1980s BBC videotape but if shown on a modern high resolution TV will proably look better than it did when new.

I watch these over and over again whenever I want to laugh out loud and if you ever need cheering up, 'As Seen on TV' would be an excellent way to achieve that goal.

Wow... the 2 complete series and the Christmas special.

This is the best comedy show of all time... no contest. 'Shoe Shop', Two Soups', 'Sauna', 'Bingo' etc, they are all here. As funny now as it was in the 80's.

"Get your foot down and get me to that bubbly"

Superb.

When I was younger, I wasn't allowed to stay up to watch the show, but my Mum taped it for me to watch the following evening. I still recall lying on my bedroom floor and listening to it through the floorboards.

Victoria Wood is faultless when it comes to building characters and producing witty dialogue and 'As Seen on TV' is the perfect evidence to prove it.

For years I've been nagging poor Vic and BBC Enterprises to release this series in a complete format as 'Best of' videos are just inaccurately titled. How can a 100 minute tape be 'best of' when it's all so fantastic?

All thirteen episodes are featured on this two-disc set and each one is an absolute gem. This DVD has been that elusive Holy Grail for me for so many years and now I have this sense of completion.

If I had to choose highlights, they would be;

The song 'Crush' from series 2 (episode 4),

'Two Soups'

'Flatmates'

'In the Office'

'Whither the Arts'

'I'm Counting Moonbeams'

and the hysterical 'Happy With Your Wash?'

But, oh, there are so many more.

Thank you Victoria, 2 Entertain and the BBC! You have made me a very happy man!

Yet again here is another compilation of the timeless Victoria Wood's excellent tv series. Some of the sketches may be a little samey (especially the 'Supermarket Checkout scene). But they are still hilariously funny. I recommend it!
Excellent all the same ! Buy Now !!

A wonderful compilation of the very best of the simply brilliant Victoria Wood's award-winning series. All the favourite characters are there including the great Patricia Routledge as Kitty. You'll be treated to the hilariously blank expressions of the superb Susie blake as the prim and proper continuity announcer as she introduces us to the amazing Celia Imrie, Julie Walters and Duncan Preston in Acorn Antiques. Some brilliant, unforgettable sketches with hilarious performances by Victoria Wood and friends - DEFINATELY worth buying!!!

"They've asked me here to talk about aspects of life in general; nuclear war, peg bags." - Kitty.

A line from this series that always makes me laugh. This is simply Victoria Wood at her best, the short, punchy sketches. Don't get me wrong, I love her monologues, but ASOTV is how I will forever remember her writing. Always brightens up a dull day; and the songs are all classics. Buy it, enjoy it, laugh your socks off.

FINALLY - what we have all (well, an awful lot of us anyway!) been waiting for.

Not just Series 1, but Series 1, Series 2 and the Christmas Special in a two disc DVD set.

These were the days when time and money went into comedy at the BBC, and what an amazing team Victoria Wood and Julie Walters are - not forgetting the rest of the wonderful cast and crew.

There is only one problem with this DVD release: I want to see every episode of Series 3 onwards NOW - come on BBC, release then soon...PLEASE!

"Legs. We came here to get away from legs."
