5.0 out of 5 stars Sensational
This film was made over 80 years ago, but Garbo's performance has not dated, she is pure enchantment from start to finish. For one thing, the phenomenal beauty of her face and voice, and the stunning way she is photographed are almost like a shock. Garbo takes your breath away.

i mainly enjoyed watching this film due to garbo. her performance carries this film almost without effort.

everything else about the film, varies from being good to disappointing. i thought the plot was a bit threadbare as i had trouble keeping up with what was happening sometimes. also, i wasn't surprised that leading man john gilbert wasn't suited to talkies, his voice is clearly at odds when considering some of the macho-type, romantic characters he played throughout the silent era. totally miscast in this one.
the production values in this film are their usual best, this being an "M.G.M" production.

This film was made over 80 years ago, but Garbo's performance has not dated, she is pure enchantment from start to finish. For one thing, the phenomenal beauty of her face and voice, and the stunning way she is photographed are almost like a shock. Garbo takes your breath away.

Greta Garbo's wonderful portrait of Queen Christina gives this historical drama startling reality. She embodies the complicated Swedish monarch with such sincerity and wit, this becomes more than just a picturesque story. Her performance is nothing less than a revelation of a human being. She gives this woman the complexity, ambivalence, and irresistible charm of a real, breathing person. Queen Christina is brought to life, and it's enthralling.

The MGM movie, made in 1933, was directed by Rouben Mamoulian. It is full of atmosphere, with many unforgettable scenes. Though this important film deserves a Blu-Ray restoration, the visuals and sound quality were apparently cleaned by 'Turner Classic Movies' for this issue, and the DVD stands up well.

When you consider the average Hollywood product today, this is wonderful in comparison. The dialogue, the issues of sexuality and power with which it deals, all amazing
