This sadly, was to be the very last season of this classic sitcom starring Jimmy Jewel and Hylda Baker. The series kicks off with one of the funniest episodes ever with 'Cindernellie'. This was originally aired at Christmas 1972, but went out again twenty years later in 1992! This was to be the last Christmas 'special'.

Some great episodes here, one of which where Nellie and Eli take a trip to France and Nellie meets several Frenchmen, including (to use her own terminology ) a 'Spaniel' from Spain! Nellie's chance of marrying are thwarted yet again as she meets up with an old flame from Germany! In another episode she becomes somewhat of a 'femme fatale', and in another, both she and Eli - along with Lily and Walter spend a week on a Health Farm. This does absolutely nothing for Nellie or Eli, but transforms Walter!! The only really 'weak' episode here was 'The Visit' which I did not feel was so good, and appears to have been added as an after thought to fill a gap. The final episode being 'Far From The Madding Pong' which is the very last we ever see of this sitcom, and takes place away from 'Pledges Pickles'. We can see from this, that this was an era drawing to a close...

Bonus features on this DVD include extremely rare footage of Hylda Baker and Jimmy Jewel being interviewed in the street just after filming the spin-off movie of the same name in Manchester city centre. (pick out the landmarks) Features also includes the very first episode of Hylda Baker's second vehicle 'Not On Your Nellie'.

This is a series that I watched when it was first broadcast and it had me in fits of laughter every week. All the characters are larger than life. The 2 stars spar off each other. You can buy each series or the complete series box which is terrific value.

Good old fashioned, laugh out loud, comedy.
Hylda Baker never fails to make me laugh, with her endless malaprops.
