This review is from: Cagney & Lacey - The Original Full-Length Feature (VHS Tape)
"Cagney and Lacey" was one of the most successful drama series of the 80s starring Sharon Gless as tough talking single detective Chris Cagney and Tyne Daly as the more sensetive, married mother of two, detective Mary Beth Lacey, working in the 14th Precinct in New York.
Miss Gless was the third Cagney, after 6 episodes of the TV series, she replaced Meg Foster, who wasn't felt to be the contrast that Loretta Swit had been to Tyne Daly,in the pilot movie.
It is Loretta Swit who is Chris Cagney in this pilot movie and she is great as Cagney, combining the right mixture of toughness and humour as Chris and Mary Beth fight prejudice from their male collagues as they are promoted from plain clothes to detectives after making a big drugs bust.
I'm very surprised that the pilot movie hasn't made it to DVD by now, sadly the recent DVD release of "Cagney and Lacey" started from the Sharon Gless era, missing out the pilot movie and the six Meg Foster episodes.
If you are used to see the TV series it is strange seeing a diffferent Cagney,Isbecki and even Harvey Lacey but the movie has a gripping storyline and Loretta Swit and Tyne Daly are great in their roles.
