This review is from: Tripsichord (Audio CD)
Listening to 'Tripsichord' play is rather like waiting for the England football team to put together a decent attack ; ie the elaborate build up has a lot of promise but there's little quality in the end product. All of the songs on this album feature great musicianship but little in the way of melody or direction and as such the 'songs' really get nowhere fast. Vocally too the band are weak, relying either on throaty shouted vocals or chorused lead vocals neither of which help to give their songs any character. As with many acid rock albums, some tracks go on far too long also and a song like 'Fly Baby' (which had essentially run out of steam by three and a half minutes) drags on in the end for 6 and a half minutes. To sum up then, while the musicianship on this record is hard to fault, sadly Tripsichord prove conclusively to the listener that they were much more talented as musicians than as songwriters and singers. One to miss.
