Coming out some 3 years after the tour, thought this would be some low budget package.

Essentially it is the whole 2003 tour concert from start to finish, nothing else added, no interviews, fancy graphics, back stage banta, just a good solid Yes show, shot in hi def, with the classic line up doing what they do best.

The liner notes indicate that Mr Howe felt this was one of their best performances and I have to agree all the band appear on form, playing to an appreciative, Montreux Jazz festival crowd. I tend to grade Yes DVD's by how Awaken comes across, and in this case its about the best I've seen/heard, hence a 5 star rating.

Overall, a solid selection of songs, new and old, including a suburb solo rendition of To Be Over, a rocking South Side of the Sky and In the Presence Of benefitting from Rick Wakemans keys.

A worthy addition to the catalogue of Yes concerts and the missing element of the Yes Speak DVD. A must have for all Yes fans and a welcome shot whilst the band are on hiatus

Unlike the instantly forgettable "Songs from Tsongas" DVD, this recording shows what a great live band Yes are. The band's performance is exceptional (even by the group's normally high standards) and all of the guys look as if they are really enjoying themselves. Sonically the disk is perfect - certainly miles better than "Tsongas". The camera work and video editing is simple but incredibly effective and concentrates solely on the band's performance - no showy graphics or scene transition effects and it's all the better for it. The video quality is in HD and really showcases how good blu-ray can be when shot and mastered properly. Finally the play list - well it can't be complained about at all and it covers the band's extensive back-catalogue of music perfectly. Of all the Yes videos I've seen (some very good) this one is the best by a fair margin.

If you are only ever going to own one Yes DVD, then you could do a far worse than getting this one! I cannot recommend this DVD highly enough!

Update - just noticed that my review has found it's way onto a version of the DVD which seems to be standard definition (not Blu-Ray). Obviously this won't affect the band's performance, the great editing/camera work or the sound, but be aware that the video quality obviously won't quite reach the heights obtainable through HD. Still thoroughly recommend this DVD, though!

A wonderful testament to how a band has evolved into an entity over the course of several decades producing the finest and most original music of it's type anywhere. Recorded on the ' Magnification' tour of 2003 at the Montreux Jazz Festival, this great band are at the absolute top of their game. One might argue that the choice of set list lacks ' Close to the Edge', 'Starship Trooper', 'Perpetual Change' and a few other gems( which are all well documented on other Yes concert dvd's anyhow) But the choice of tracks from the 'Magnification' album sit perfectly well among such established Yes classics as 'Siberian Khatru', 'And You And I', 'Roundabout', ' Heart of the Sunrise', and the welcome surprise addition to the set of ' South Side of the Sky'. The musicianship on display here is customarily faultless from all five members of the band with special mention due to Jon Anderson's unique vocal delivery. The man belies his advancing years and continues to nail the range every time. Lacking a little in the sonic department on this dvd, you really have to sit in front of this band to appreciate just how powerful they really are. However, this minor point does not detract from the fact that Yes have once again produced a work of well crafted genius and prove that, on this particular evening in Montreux, they have few, if any, peers...

Have this dvd since some time and now the blu-ray. As to the dvd the DTS-HD track on the blu-ray is awesome. There is definite a better definition on Chris his bass-lines and the sub has also extra work to do.Image is crisp-clean. The track-list is almost perfect meaning I would certainly have skipped roundabout and don't kill the whale and have starship trooper and time and a word or tried for once Universal garden.
Anyway, this is certainly the best in terms of sound and image thanks to the blu-ray format. It seems also to me that Jon was at that time not in perfect condition or rather maybe a little sick.I make that up by his eyes. At least he still has the guts to try Heart of the sunrise which is vocaly very difficult, and it shows when Jon at the end is clearly satisfied he'd done it and survived.
Now, I can't wait to find the Symphonic on blu-ray.

Having been a Yes fan since 1980 when I first heard Circus of Heaven & Awaken playing on my brother's stereo system as it was the time I embraced the idea of fantasy lyrics, keyboard wizardry and impeccable guitar virtuosoity with open arms......and I was only 12.........!!
Having been to see the band seven times I can safely say I am a die hard Yes Fan and so if you are like me than you will thoroughly enjoy this DVD.
It is well produced with excellent sound quality with lots of close up images of both the band members and their playing styles. Steve Howe is like wine... he just gets better and better with age......Rick Wakeman is as ever finger perfect with a breathtaking solo that will have the hairs standing on the back of your neck and Jon Anderson's singing quality hasn't deterioarted in any respect even though he must be nearly 60 years old now.
This DVD, comprising a wide variety of tracks both new and old stands out for me because of tracks such as South Side of the Sky which is simply brilliant and In The Presence of (particulalry Howes playing).
If you want a vintage Yes concert with 21st century sound production right there in your living room buy this DVD. You won't be disappointed.

I agree wholeheartedly with the previous reviews here. Here is two and a half hours of a true supergroup at the height of its powers, brilliantly recorded and filmed. When there is so much quality entertainment available on DVD these days it is hard to be really impressed any more, but believe me, it really doesn't get much better than this.

This concert is a gathering of maestros performing their craft in effortless perfection.
Dazzeling guitar work by Howe, mind blowing dexterity by Wakeman, rhythm section solid and tight and lead and vocal harmonies spot on.The vibe on stage is that of pure musical pleasure.
This is a no bollocks DVD it is PURE LIVE MUSIC with no scenery or movie clips thrown in.
This DVD is a must for any musician to treasure.YES have matured like a great wine.
Where some bands have weathered with age YES seem to have grown.
Please buy this masterpiece without a second thought this is a musical gem.

I was somewhat underwhelmed by this DVD. To me, the band plays well but without the excitement of the Symphonic LIve dvd. THis is the classic line-up, performing classis songs tehcnically well, but it comes across as another evening at the office. Sounds and picture quality are excellent, and the DVD features a lot of shots of Steve Howe playing guitar, showing fingering in detail, so much so that it's almost a master class. No such attention to Chris and Alan ....
