It's so thrilling to hear a new Lesley Garrett album. This is a very romantic album and Lesley's amazing voice is wonderfully suited to these outstanding love songs. Having seen Lesley recently in the Sound of Music, in the West End, I was totally blown away by the quality of her voice, and that is even more apparent on this album. It seems like quite a while since Lesley's last record and she seems to be as good as ever.

This collection of songs shows off Lesleys beautiful voice more than any of the other CD's I have of hers. "Come What May" is gorgeous sung with Michael Ball - a real favourite.

11 of the 12 songs are very familiar to me, some more so than others, from diverse sources. The 12th, Come what may, is a duet with Michael Ball. Maybe I've heard the song before but I don't instantly recognize it.

The booklet contains translations of three French songs that Lesley sings, but the translations are literal interpretations of the French lyrics rether than the English lyrics set to the original music. It is interesting to read these translations but they are not described as such, nor are the actual English lyrics that Lesley sings given. For one of the three songs, Lesley sings the entire song (If you go away) in English then sings some (or all?) of the original French lyrics (Ne me quitte pas).

All of which is less important than thgis being a great collection os songs that suit Lesley ideally.

This was a valentines gift from my husband. I wasnt a huge fan of female operatic singers, until I saw Lesley in 'The Sound of Music'- Her voice is amazing, and I love all of the songs on this cd - which again is unusual! Its very soothing and calming to listen to.... Very Romantic....

Although I knew of Lesley Garrett before, I first heard her sing live in The Sound of Music at the London Palladium. Her wonderful voice brought tears to my eyes. She is amazing. This cd shows her versatility to sing more popular songs so beautifully.

I agree with most of these reviews. I think this is a great "change" to hear Lesley singing these songs. I had never listened to her before hearing her in TSOM...she was terrific, hence I listened to this CD.The track "If you go away" had me reduced to tears it was so emotional!

This is a difficult album to review. The concept of an Opera Singer singing popular songs, is not an issue for me. It's more a case of how the material is handled by the singer, that's the issue for me.

Don't get me wrong, I have some favourites on the album: "Where Do I Begin" (the instrumental theme from Love Story); "He was Beautiful"; "Come What May" (featuring Michael Ball) and "More" - are all good tracks.

However, there are a few tracks that I was disappointed with, like "Moonriver" & the songs by Edith Piaf.

I feel that the Piaf songs, lack a bit of authority from Lesley. Saying that however, I do recognise that covering such legendary songs as Piaf's, is not an easy task. However, it feels like the Orchestra are left to build the trademark atmosphere in "Non, Je ne Regrette Rien" entirely alone. This track may work better for Lesley in Concert, rather than on disc.

Overall, I would say, that the concept of this album is a good one but, fails to deliver in some respects.
