5.0 out of 5 stars The masterful "Horses & Trees" remastered & renamed
This is a 2006 remastering of Gingers 1987 classic world music album Horses & Trees, and the only way to buy it cheaply now.

After Cream Baker has had an output as variable as his personal ups and downs, with some decidely 2nd rate rock money raising ventures ( Baker Gurvitz, Energy, Hawkwind and even the dreary Blind Faith) But he has produced 3 influential...

3.0 out of 5 stars Rutine work by a great drummer
Most people who're familiar with the name Ginger Baker, properly know him best as part of the famous group of the sixtees; "The Cream" (with Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce). But Baker has released many things since then. More recently he has released some jazz/fusion oriented stuff, and two albums that in particular stand out is "Going Back Home" and "Falling of The Roof",...

This is a 2006 remastering of Gingers 1987 classic world music album Horses & Trees, and the only way to buy it cheaply now.

After Cream Baker has had an output as variable as his personal ups and downs, with some decidely 2nd rate rock money raising ventures ( Baker Gurvitz, Energy, Hawkwind and even the dreary Blind Faith) But he has produced 3 influential musical collaborations that match the legendary drumming skills and his influential music with Cream and Graham Bond in the 60s.

In the 1970s he played with Fela Kuti on 3 albums (Live, Why Black Men Suffer & He Miss Road) for which he was slated by the music press, but which can now be seen as a key step in the acceptance of Afro Beat music to a worldwide audience.

In the 90s he formed a brilliant Neo-fusion jazz trio with Bill Frisell & Charlie Haden on the albums Goin Back Home & Falling Off the Roof.

The album Dust to Dust is a well remastered re-issue of his great 80s collaboration with New York left field world music maestro Bill Laswell. The collaboration also produced the albums Middle Passage and Material Live in Japan.

All of the above are worth seeking out to show that Baker could still produce groundbreaking, high quality music between Creams demise in 1968 and its reunion in 2005.

Most people who're familiar with the name Ginger Baker, properly know him best as part of the famous group of the sixtees; "The Cream" (with Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce). But Baker has released many things since then. More recently he has released some jazz/fusion oriented stuff, and two albums that in particular stand out is "Going Back Home" and "Falling of The Roof", with Bill Frisell and Charlie Haden (highly recommended). "Dust to Dust" is unfortunately not in the same league. This is trivia and even household names as Bill Lashwell, can't make up for that. Be aware that the Baker title "Horses and Trees", is the exact same album, just a different cover and title. Seriously, don't waste your money on this one, but check out the other two titles mentioned above.
