3.0 out of 5 stars Not Exactly that Beginner Friendly
This was my first guitar, I chose this after reading really good reviews about it. At £99, I think the pro pack was a decent deal from Amazon but looks like the price has gone up again.
The guitar is actually quite good and stays in tune well but its not really that easy to play for complete beginners. So if you are planning on buying your first guitar make sure you...

I have been playing the guitar for a long time and have owned many acoustic guitars. I came to the UK for a short period of time and wanted a cheap knock-about guitar for a couple of months while here. This package is superb value. The F310 is as good a guitar as you could expect at this price, and is better than the majority of guitars three times the price. The sound is extraordinarily good for a laminate guitar: bass response and clarity is excellent and intonation is brilliant. The accessories are very good too: the tuner is surprisingly accurate, and the bag and stand are both well made. The stand in particular is very good. Yamaha cannot be faulted for consistency. The F310 is the best first guitar you can own. For more experienced players, be aware that the neck is quite compact on this guitar (seems to have a slightly shorter scale length than normal, though probably not by much). But if you are a a beginner, this guitar is perfect. Rant over.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Guitar Teachers Choice, 10 Nov 2008

Well I've been teaching and playing for a long time and this is the acoustic guitar I've always recommended. It's tough and doesn't cost so much you'll get scared to taking it anywhere to play. It's nicely built so it will be fairly easy to play. Sometime soon you'll need to get some new strings - so get them nice a light so they are easier to play - go for 11's on the 1st string - you'll see this marked up on the string pack when you're buying - these will be marked 'light' or 'super light' - they make it easier to press the strings down when learning. Also a nice light pick (something like .43 mm) will ensure you strum and pick without digging in. You can go to a thicker plectrum (.71mm medium) later when you can play better. And read the instructions on the tuner pack - these cheaper tuners are a bugger to use well on the first tuning - but once in tune, they are easy to keep in tune.

Trust me, this is the acoustic to learn on - a well known manufacturer - well constructed (they make hundreds of thousands of these to sell them all over the World) - and a nice playing action. Put some heavier bluegrass strings on it once you can play well, like the D'Addario EJ19's, and you've got a great guitar for a party or the beach; the knock-about guitar to compliment the expensive one you'll get sometime in the future.

Get a Steve Kaufman or Russ Barenberg Beginning Bluegrass Guitar (Guitar Books) beginners book or DVD on playing bluegrass to get you started -Steve Kaufman: Learning to Flatpick, Vol. 1 - From the Beginning [1995] (REGION 1) (NTSC) that way you'll have some intersting stuff to play and avoid books with Twinkle Twinkle or Jingle Bells. Once you can play a few chords and pick out a melody, you can move on....Have a listen to Tony Rice if you want to hear what that style is like played very well.Unit of Measure Don't worry that all this stuff will turn you into a bluegrass player - these books will get you playing anything. It's good stuff to get started on - and - you'll be playing proper songs that aren't an embarrassment. You'll learn all the chords and how to play melodies on the top strings and the bass strings and often a mix of both. After learning these basics you can go on to any style of playing.

I ordered this Guitar pack from Amazon because it was £36.00 cheaper than a leading high street catalogue store. I have never played the guitar in my life, but thought if I was going to buy one then it may as well be a good one.

What I actually got is a beautiful piece of workmanship. The Guitar body has a lovely light coloured wood for the front and the back and sides are made from a rich Mahogany, add to this the wonderful chrome tuning pegs and the awesome sound and you have a great buy.

The pack comes with an electronic tuner (First day it took me an hour to tune all 6 strings because I didn't read the manual properly, second day it took 5 minutes, not bad for a complete novice)

The DVD tutorial is good with a nice mix of styles of music, although some of the sub menus on the dvd go a bit off track when trying to jump to certain parts.

Carry bag is in the style of a rucksack with 2 shoulder straps and feels comfortable on the back when in transit.

The guitar stand is wonderful and has felt padding on the support spokes to protect the lovely finish on the guitar.

also comes with a nylon strap, 3 x Plectrums(Picks) and a spare set of steel strings.

Buy one you won't be diappointed and Amazons delivery was very prompt and secure (sent via a tracking number)

Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)

I bought this guitar as a novice and I am very chuffed with the quality and all the accesseries you get with it. As soon as I got it I put the DVD in and played the white stripes song and the beetles song so easily.
My fingers are a little numb but that is expected but I was expecting them to be in pain with the steel strings but feel its very easy to play.
tuner is also very easy to use.
would recommend to anyone starting up

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Beginners Guitar, But..., 27 Oct 2008

As a Guitar Tutor for many years I can honestly say that every time a new pupil comes to me for Guitar Lessons carrying a Yamaha F310 I'm always very pleased. And I have no problem in awarding these little beginners Guitars the full five stars. But let me make clear to everyone as I do to all new pupils who come to me, that although these are a very good beginners Guitars, that is all they really are, nothing more, nothing less.
It has been my experience that anyone still stuck with one of these Guitars after a year or two, then that pupil has not really made proper progress in their learning of the Guitar. These Guitars really will help get you off the ground, but if you are truly serious about progressing properly on the Guitar then you should think very seriously about up-grading to a real solid-wood guitar when you come to see that you are really beginning to become more of a player then a beginner which these Guitars are solely designed for. Most good pupils with me tend to move up to the real thing within 6 months after taking their first lesson with these Guitars, and I am always delighted with that because it means that even they can see that they are starting to make real progress and that the time has now come to move up to the real thing.
As I said at the start of my review, I have no problem awarding the full five stars to these beginners Guitars, but please keep in mind that they can never be looked upon as your long-term Guitar, not if you are truly serious about learning and progressing properly on the Guitar.
Also keep in mind that if you look after your F310 well and keep it in good shape then you'll find that it'll be very easy to sell it off to someone else who is just about to take their first lesson.
So My Verdict is... A Great Little Beginners Guitar, But that's all they are, nothing more, nothing less. So Good Luck To All You New Beginners.
Rod, N. Ireland.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yamaha F310 Pro Pack, 7 Jun 2007
This review is from: Yamaha F310 Acoustic Guitar Pro Pack (Electronics)
Recieved my pack today, on the first day of the delivery window. The outer packaging was a little crushed but the instrument was well protected inside by a sturdy carton.

I am so impressed with the deal, which was £36 cheaper than Argos. Everything you need (or want) to start playing guitar is included. The actual guitar seems to be very well made and beautifully finished. I have had a couple of guitars before (a few years ago) and this compares very favourably with them. I know a few chords, and they sound gorgeous on this! The included tuner is easy to use, and the difference between using it and just guessing (lol) a low E is remarkable.

The other accessories are equally good quality, I can imagine spending £10 each on the stand, bag, strings ,dvd tuner alone, so really you are only paying £35 for the guitar. Very highly recommended!

This guitar sounds just amazing - considering the price I paid for it. It is a great value for money and sounds very pleasant. The extras are also very useful like the stand and the tuner. I am not sure about the DVD though but overall I am very satisfied. Highly recommended!!!

This was my first guitar, I chose this after reading really good reviews about it. At £99, I think the pro pack was a decent deal from Amazon but looks like the price has gone up again.
The guitar is actually quite good and stays in tune well but its not really that easy to play for complete beginners. So if you are planning on buying your first guitar make sure you try this one first. It stays in tune quite well and is fairly robust.
DVD included is alright, you can find much better information free on line. Gig bag supplied is a standard cheap kind which does the job, you can find these bags for around £10. Tuner is also a very standard one and does the job. Stand is of particularly good quality. Plectrums supplied were all quite thick hard ones, as a beginner I found thin .38 mm better and more comfortable.
All in all its a good package to get you going and being a popular guitar it should hold its value well, I manage to sell mine for a good price after 3 months of use.
I will recommend this guitar but will strongly suggest trying it out first if you can.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect start for a beginner, 2 Feb 2008
This review is from: Yamaha F310 Acoustic Guitar Pro Pack (Electronics)
Plays brilliantly and looks good on the stand too!

The sound quality is good. It took about 5 minutes to tune with the electronic tuner that's included. The build is robust and of a decent standard.

There are three plectrums of varying gauges so you can find which one you prefer. And a spare set of strings which is a must.

The bag is a soft padded bag with unpadded backstrap and carry handle. It's ok for short journeys or in the car but I wouldn't risk it on a busy tube. I haven't sussed out how to attach the strap to the guitar yet, but I don't play standing up so that's no big deal for me.

The stand is usefull for preventing damage. It has a nice plectrum holder too.

All in all - fantastic value for money. A great gift idea.

The DVD is OK too.

All in all this is ideal

5.0 out of 5 stars You can't really go wrong with a Yamaha acoustic, 17 Nov 2010

This is supremely affordable and high quality package - and not just for beginners either.

True, today there are a huge number of excellent acoustics out there and many turn their uneducated noses up at the mention of Yamahas, but you really can't go wrong with them. They're true workhorses and yet capable of both stridency and subtlety.

In my time, I've owned several F and FG Yahamas (F = Folk or FG = Folk Guitar) and even though I now own some much more expensive instruments, I keep going back to my old faithful and rock-steady FG Yamaha. In fact, I really do think it's probably my favourite instrument! It never lets me down and is both comfortable to play and has a lovely sweet tone. I could have saved myself hundred of pounds!!!

Fit a Tusq saddle and maybe a nut as well and the sound improves way beyond what you'd expect .... and that takes into account the fact that the basic sound of FG guitars is good anyway.

I have no hesitation in recommending this item. If you're a true beginner, then go for it.

One additional thing to think about --- this advertised pack is excellent, but for not much more money, you could buy a different Yamaha acoustic that has just that bit extra. For instance, have a look for the YAMAHA FX370 C which is an electro-acoustic. I don't think it's always on Amazon, but try 'imuso', they're a reliable dealership.
