5.0 out of 5 stars Lulu IS Independence!
This is an extraordinary single with its high tempo upbeat rhythm and gut strong vocals. Even the horns are real - no synthesized crap here. The single did VERY well in the UK but went nowhere in the USA. This woman can sing! If you can get the album, "Independence" you are in for a real treat of pure talent. It's that good!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing...
Oh my... This album goes on w-a-a-a-y too long... It's boring and all the songs are so long... And as if that isn't bad enough,. they slap a second version of one of the tracks on it at the end at over five minutes long...!??

This for me was a great disappointment from Lulu after hearing the fabulous single 'Independence'. If you're expecting more songs like...

5.0 out of 5 stars Lulu delivers a powerful musical punch !, 1 April 2010

The lady strikes out on this brilliant C.D. The excellent title song sets the mood for this compilation of brilliant tunes and the lady being assisted by the talented Bee Gees brilliantly in the song "Let me wake up in your arms". Great music, great songs and a dynamic singer delivering them resulting in her delivering a powerful musical punch to the listener!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality RnB/Dance from The UK, 10 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Independence (Audio CD)
This album is one of the best RnB/dance albums from around 1993 and in general. Every track is a winner. It's classy, sassy and quality stuff. Lulu's vocals are just great on every song and the production is first class. Go buy a copy!

This for me was a great disappointment from Lulu after hearing the fabulous single 'Independence'. If you're expecting more songs like that on this album - then forget it...

I believe the best album from Lulu was the one that never got released 'Poor Boys'. At the time, I heard her sing several tracks from the forthcoming album, but for some reason it was 'shelved'. I remember nagging someone 'in the know' at the time to find out why, and I did get a reason - eventually, though I can't recall what it was, and I'm unable to find the letter I received...

Here we have a very 'bland' album that promised to be much better. There is a cover 'How 'Bout Us' which was a big hit for 'Champaign' way back in 1981 - but this is not a good rendition. (sorry Lulu!) There's also a song involving ex husband Maurice Gibb and the 'Bee Gees' - this is okay, but to be honest, I have big problems with Celebes who appear to still be great friends with their ex-spouses. (Brightman and Webber another example) It's really weird... I find it hard to understand how they can be such good friends, but end their marriages... Stranger still, are their new Partners who seem to accept this 'bizarre' on-going 'relationship' that isn't a 'relationship?? with their exes... 'Unfinished business' without a doubt in my opinion! (call me cynical if you like) I wouldn't except my Partner doing more then sending a Christmas card to his ex if he had one - and I'd even questions that...

Sorry - got a bit carried away there! Shame about this album. Let's hope 'Poor Boys' eventually gets an airing.
