5.0 out of 5 stars "You hear that. That's the sound of the universe."
After waiting for 2 years the BBC have finally released the fantastic soundtrack to what is essentially their flagship television show.

Murray Gold, the British equivalent to America's Bear McCreary (check out the Battlestar Galactica CD's to see what I mean) weaves a collection beautiful scores which span seasons 1 and 2.

It's not until you listen...

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing but still its Doctor Who
I was disappointed with this CD in many ways, admittedly there are many great pieces of music on it - but i bought it like i think many others did for the Doctor Who theme. The final track on the disk contains the restored 'middle 8' section as used in series 2 of the new series, totally criminal it was ever left out in the first place in my opinion.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jolly good, but a few things are missing., 23 Dec 2006

I quite liked the music from the show, even if, stylistically, it was a little predictable (David Arnold-esque orchestra and electronics all over the shop) and the CD presents a well rounded collection of cues from the series (although some of the inclusions are bizarre, and some of the omissions even more so).

We're treated to two renditions of the main theme, although everyone's heard it so often by now that, personally, I'd rather shove bamboo under my fingernails than listen to it again. The rest of the CD's brilliant though. The fantastic opening moments of 'Westminster Bridge' (featured in both 'Rose' and the first Christmas special) is probably the best thing on here. As we build up a huge big chord with an augmented fifth until the whole thing resolves into the first two notes of the Doctor Who theme and we spiral towards earth. Fantastic stuff. There's nothing else of particular note until we reach 'The Daleks' and 'The Cybermen' which are big long actiony cues. 'Doomsday' is a good listen too, although I was thought it was a bit too take-overy in the episode. And then of course there's 'Madam de Pompadour,' the best episode of Doctor Who ever, and a charming piece of music.

There are a few noticeable absences from the album, particularly the cue where the Doctor and Rose say their goodbyes at the end of 'Doomsday.' A shame really as it was not only a spectacular piece of music, but also entirely appropriate to the scene.

I got the Doctor Who Soundtrack on monday 25th december for a christrmas preseant it is a fantastic cd with the doctor who television series theme tune for track number 1 and the Rose's theme is a very good song but quite emiontial at some times when the track was plyed during on one of the first season of doctor who called ROSE which has the alarm clock music when she hit's snozzes on the button and then the music kicks in and i know that it is going to be a Good Doctor who Series and the Tooth and Claw track (number 20) is from the Tooth and Claw series of DOCTOR WHO which i thought that this series 2 Will be a very Good Series and i thought FANTASTIC.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing but still its Doctor Who, 11 Dec 2006

I was disappointed with this CD in many ways, admittedly there are many great pieces of music on it - but i bought it like i think many others did for the Doctor Who theme. The final track on the disk contains the restored 'middle 8' section as used in series 2 of the new series, totally criminal it was ever left out in the first place in my opinion.

I listened to the track, then listened to the ending of an episode on a DVD - the one on the cd bears only a passing resemblence to the version used on the show and sounds hollow and rather hastilly put together. It was very disappointing as i bought this purely for that track.

There is some small compensation as many of the other tracks are rich and vibrant, but the signature track is going to be a disapointment to anyone who was looking to grab the fantastic doctor who theme.

How I have waited long and hard for a soundtrack for the new series of Doctor Who. I have loved Murray Gold's version of the theme and his insidental music. It will be fantastic now to listen to it on it's own. Bring the on the 4th December,

Rubbish cd, no work or thought has gone into it, yet it could have been brilliant. The Beeb have put together a cd full of awful themes that do not do justice to the excellent music composed for Dr Who.

I am hoping there is another CD produced for the 2nd and latest 3rd series as the music is excellent.
