Replacement for old 2D cell Maglite - What a difference!,
By
This review is from: Maglite ST2D016 2D Cell LED Torch - Black (DIY & Tools)
I've owned an 2D cell Maglite for some time and was pretty happy with it, that is until I saw one of these LED versions in use. The "Upgrader" in me couldn't help himself and I order one. Making a direct comparison of the two in a pitch black room, side by side (new batteries in both) I was amazed at just how much brighter the LED version was. Great focussed beam and a flood that lights up the room. Given that the same batteries will last much longer and the bulb less likely to go, I am very pleased.

Brilliantly bright, great range, excellent battery life,

Having owned maglites for many years, I've always appreciated the build quality, but found that the light output on the traditional two and three-cell D torches fades very quickly. However, thanks to the super-bright LED bulb this torch is not only far brighter than the conventional version, the batteries last far, far longer, too. The range of the beam is stunning, as well. When walking the dog, I am able to pick out objects 100-yards away with ease; it's like having a portable searchlight!I bought the three-cell version as I thought it would be brighter than the two-cell version, but having compared it to a two-cell maglite, with an LED replacement bulb, I can't see any real difference and the two-cell is certainly easier to hang off a belt loop than this monster.

The torch is very sturdily built, quite heavy, and gives a very strong bright white (rather than yellowish) light, which can be focussed or used to cover a wider angle. When it arrives, it appears to have no bulb or LEDs fitted, but it has! I can imagine the alternative 3 battery Maglite being long, heavy and unwieldy, so I pleased I "made do" with this one. Very pleased. It arrived in two days, post free.

Bought as a gift for my husband having discovered that it was literally half theprice of identical torches in the local shops! Delivery was speedy and he says it is the brightest and strongest torch he has ever used. Satisfaction all round.

The mag-light torch is powerful and provides a good 'clean' light from its' LED. I would thoroughly recommend it.

I already own a 3C standard Mag torch, which lives in the Car, I bought this 2D LED mag as an extra one for around the house as I am fed up of the cheap plastic hours torch we own breaking or being unreliable... and as I live in a draugty Victorian built Manse, a torch is essential at times. I paid £28 for the LED version, I saw the same one in a local shop for around £50!So: 1. These torches, although expressive are damn-near indestructible. 2. Amazon are doing some great discounts on the LED versions of Maglites. 3. The LED version is way brighter than the older bulb version. 4. buy buy buy is my advise....

Maglite led 2d cell,

A very good torch, i have various led maglite sizes & find this 2d cell to be comparable with the 4d cell but obviously half the cost in batteries & a nice size, don't bother with the (old type) standard bulb model the led model is far superior & worth the extra money, the only thing i don't like with maglites is the dark circle in the centre of the beam but this is only a small issue & has not stopped me buying them

I am involved in a lot of model engineering and am forever dropping tiny components (e.g. 16B.A. nuts) on the floor where they manage to become invisible. A beam of light cast horizontally across the area does wonders in revealing their hiding places, but getting a light source with a strong enough focus and sufficient reliability proved difficult. All the torches I tried, in spite of advertising boasts to the contrary, were not really up to the job....until this one. Its performance is flawless and consistent. It has been worth its weight in gold (well, brass anyway). I am still on the three cells originally fitted with no signs of reduced performance in spite of considerable use. Highly recommended.
