The typewriter was bought for an old lady who did not feel comfortable using a computer. She is quite at home using the machine but has problems setting margins for the two different sizes of paper she uses. Certainly the stting up of the machine could be easier, but once set up she is very happy to write to her friends.

To get the best out of this typewriter, work through the manual - it's a sophisticated machine, and well worth the money. The first AX425 received was faulty. The carriage would speed leftwards, slam into the stops and judder, as if trying to go further. Then the alarm kept bleeping. The user guide does not recognize this fault. The replacement, obtained directly from Brother, worked perfectly, with good, sharp characters even on cheap paper. The facility to type a line into the memory and make any corrections before printing is brilliant. I bought this machine for my elderly Mum so I'm hoping she can manage to move it about. It's quite a large machine. No cover is supplied with the AX-425, but for a hard plastic clip-on keyboard cover that also serves as a paper rest.
