5.0 out of 5 stars An audacious masterpiece - and damn these critics...!
God, how this film's detractors depress me!
All this talk of boredom - and criticism of its special effects. My God, my God, my God............. How depressing that people can't cope with a slower pace, an unfolding story that you need to absorb visually (this is CINEMA), not just be spoonfed with an explicit,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I love 2001 A Space Odyssey. It's a lifetime faveourite. However as a Blue Ray film, the quality is scandalously bad. Note: this isn't a reflection on the seller in any way who plainly isn't responsible for what the studio released here! This is a criticism of the Blue Ray release. There is dirt and dust and scratches in evidence everywhere. This must have been mastered...

1.0 out of 5 stars uninteresting, irrelevent and tiresome,
By A Customer
yes that's right, 2001:a space oddysey is not the cinematic masterpiece you've heard about.
there's some monkeys at the start. they scream alot. and they scream some more. i watched with interest as the monkeys learn to stand and to smash bones. sadly this is the highlight of the film because it's about to slow down to a grinding halt.
long drawn out sequences of space to the background of opera music are the main course for this borefest!
i must'nt forget to talk about the most conservative and boring crew that has ever graced a spaceship aswell.
One fantastic scene in this film is when the computer decides to kill everyone on the ship by cutting off their air.
the computer has the right idea. sadly he is turned off (VERY slowly).then the remaining crew member apparently has a giant multicoloured hallucination which i might add is amoung some of the worst visual effects i have ever witnessed. the film tries to justify it's existance with a pathetic message about new life at the end.
yes this film is a turkey if ever i saw one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful,
This is the most boring movie I have ever seen.
I still don't know what the film was about..i almost fell asleep. There is almost no dialogue and only space scenes with classical music.

2.0 out of 5 stars The worst SF film ever made,
It is a great pity that film directors have an uncanny knack of really screwing up a good SF story. They seem to think that a few shots of model spaceships drifting through space is an adequate reason for completely neglecting the spirit of the original story. However, having got that off my chest I now ask the reader: "What is the connection between this film, CATCH-22, BEING THERE, and the book THE TROUBLE WEITH CEPHAE?" The answer is the theme music - ALSO SPRACH ZARUTHUSTRA. It is used in the opening credits of 2001, in CATCH-22, when our hero sees the gorgeous woman walking down the street, in BEING THERE when Peter Sellers is thrown out of his beloved garden, and in the THE TROUBLE WITH CEPHAE, just before Mark Derringer has his fatal accident. Interesting or what?

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst ever Sci-Fi,
Utter disappointment and sheer waste of time. Probably the worst sci-fi movie I have ever seen. Seemed like the creation of a troubled mind.

1.0 out of 5 stars 2001: A Space Odyssey,
Yes, this was a classic for its time and given the lack of CGI it is still impressive cinematographically. However, the storyline is hardly thought-provoking unless you are a true Arthur C Clarke convert and want to believe in extra-terrestrial visitors having granted intelligence to the human race.
