4.0 out of 5 stars a modern film with roots firmly set in the past, 27 Feb 2012

This review is from: A Long Weekend In Pest And Buda [2003] [DVD] (DVD)
The film is centred on an elderly Hungarian lady who is coming to the end of her life. Her daughter is also heavily involved in the film and the ladies estranged former lover now living abroad is convinced to return to Hungary to see her one final time. The former lover is also the daughter's father and as the film continues and the ladies health deteriorates the two strike up a relationship. The film deals with many touching subjects in relation to Hungary's past and the emotive way the family deal with each creates a connection with the characters which will live long past the end of the film. The soundtrack also perfectly complements the film and helps set the tone of the film set in a Budapest winter.
