So there is no confusion, this is an action film! Thats all. No romance, drama, thriller staples. Just out and out action. Thats why I loved it. If, like me, your getting a bit fed up with every action blockbuster trying to inject a little character development, and forgetting to add the action, then you will really enjoy this.

Jason Statham is top notch, and makes the cheesiest lines sound good! The set pieces are blistering and sometimes brutal. This has got to be one of the fastest paced films I have seen in a long time. Alot of people will moan that it doesnt have any brains! Who cares? Its fun, and simple and doesnt pretend to be anything else. The story is daft and the whole concept is held together by mediocre characters. But if you switch your brain off and sit back and relax, I can guarantee you'll have a good time.

I thought this movie was decent but my husband heavily enjoyed it of course. Its "B" type movie, not a serious, not a critic movie. It is a movie for the people with a simple plot that allows great, heart-pumping action. Crank starts off with superficially appealing opening titles over glass-shattering rock music, and once the movie starts going, it presents itself as an obvious entry in the race-against- time category of movies. Despite points where I would either drastically change a scene or just leave it the hell out, there are some fun moments, such as when Statham tries to evade police by racing his car through a mall and making it up an escalator in it, and when he runs through a hospital desperate for an adrenaline hit.

Honestly, I found Statham's performance in Crank to be possibly one of his best. He continues his career with a lack of versatility the genre of movies he tends to be cast in, with the exception of the romantic comedy London, but his character is unlike any of the other generally wooden, raspy-voiced, earthily cynical characters he's played since his first role. Lock, Stock, Snatch, the Transporter films, and even Cellular showcase him in practically identical roles. In Crank, which involves gangsters, shootouts and other high-over-the-top action sequences, and a character's fatal deadline, themes that you can find in each of the films previously mentioned, he is shown in a role as an aggressive, hasty, impulsive, and highly temperamental person. I mean, when has Statham ever raised his voice or conveyed emotion in any of his films? Here, he does, and that makes it a much more likable role than if it were played by most other action stars.

The film has great momentum and everything mentioned above, but depreciates greatly from the introduction of Amy Smart's token girlfriend character. She plays her role to the fullest, but the Lambourghini ride pace of the movie is severed when her screen time starts. There's also a nonsensical and completely out-of-place sequence where Statham coerces her into having sex with her, impulsively, amidst a large crowd to keep his decreasing heart rate from plundering and thus letting the poison he's been given finally worn out. That scene was a turn off to me, frankly. It and a few other scenes at around this point in the movie. In the Laws and Doctrines of the Race Against Time Movie, it states that you may not slow down. Even when the plot must take expository time, you do it in a clever way where we are still gripping our chair arms.

Crank is not a work of art by any standard, but it doesn't follow formula and it keeps you entertained.

This film serves its ultimate purpose which is filling an hour and a half full of mindless violence. I'm not kidding when I say that either. The characters were one dimensional and the plot line could have written in 15 minutes. The ending was the worst part, it seems somebody got bored of writing by that point.

On the other hand it is absolutely the right film for a straight up violent testosterone fueled movie fest AND it is definitely entertaining. If you've seen Transporter buy this, Jason Statham doesn't fail to impress in this film either. There are enough stunts in this film to leave you cheering and absolutely no gap for a tea break.

Last words on this film: Crank will EXCITE you.

Chev Chelios (Statham) has been injected with a poison that will kill him if his adrenalin levels in his blood drop. So he has to start out on a quest to find the anti-dote whilst at the same time scaring the bejesus out of himself in order to maintain his adrenalin level.

It is a non-stop roller coaster ride that leaves you feeling a bit exhausted after a while and you begin to look forward to a break from it.

If you are a Statham fan you will enjoy it, I thought it was OK, but I don't personally rate it as his best. This does score quite high in the Internet Movie Database (7.0) and so I am very much in a minority

crank is a 2006 film starring jason statham, the plot is semi-decent in that he is a villain of sorts, one we are meant to like anyway, who gets injected with a toxin that will kill him if his adrenaline lowers so its simple to stay alive statham must stay active and on the go constantly and he does this by chasing down those who wronged him.

Along the way you get the standard car chases, shoot outs, good kills and even a few moments that smashed a smile across my face, such as when the parrot is executed in fine fashion,as you can imagine due to the way that stathams character has to live by then the film is fast paced, there is little time for slow paced scenes, the film suceeds on some levels and fails on others, the style of film making is jumbly at times, split screens that are lopsided and so on are designed perhaps to unsettle the viewer but in truth just seem a bit pretentious and pointless, statham plays a scumbag but isnt as cool as say, michael caine in get carter and mel gibson in payback who play roles like this, the film has its good points and its bad but is still high octane enough to pass as a watchable show.
