i was scared about this album, that they would turn the much loved songs in to.. wel dance tracks, but once i bought it, all that was gone. this is an amazing album, the songs still have the same foundations, but have so much more built up on it. theres much more keyboards, and orchestoral pieces, espesilly on in joy and sorrow and salt in our wounds (the two best songs) make them astonishingly epic. the acoustic versions allows villes voice to come through clearer, and are more intmimate, there is one odd one out however, gone with the sin, wich is entirly violin based. that is no reason not to own this though, if you love him, you need this, if your intreaged by him, go and buy love metal then buy this.

If, like me, you own all of HIM's albums to date then you will recognise the title of every song on here. However, you immediatly notice a difference in each song from the original, no matter how sublte, sometimes you can't always put your finger on what is different but you can tell that it is. That is the beauty of the album, all recognisable titles yet the songs have been changed slightly.

The only downside to this album is that these songs are no longer rareities and not so much of a novelty to have in your music collection.

I am a HUGE HIM fan, and was at best deflated when I listened to this album. I would say BUY IT if you, like me, wish to own all of their music and want to judge this album for yourself, but it is not as good as I hoped that it would be. Some tracks are ok, but the Buried Alive By Love acoustic version is pants. I hate to say this! (but it is true!)

Sweet 666 kisses

Gemma

If like me, you're a sucker for the more so-called "Romantic" side of HIM this is "Piggy in sh*t time!" A great listen especially if you don't own the Singles Collection, as this compilation contains quite a few of the bonus tracks from those. But even if you do, there's still plenty of interesting alternative versions of old favourites here to make this worth buying. I'm especially fond of the string & acoustic versions which highlight Ville's beautiful vocals that often get a little overshadowed in the more conventional arrangements. Personal highlights in an already stellar crop are : Joy & Sorrow & GWTS, which have lovely lush string arrangements and Salt IO Wounds & Lose You Tonight which are kind of trippy, haunting versions of these.

Bonus tip for the guys: Take it from a girl, this is THE CD of choice for that planned seduction!

Apparently there will be a vol.2 to follow soon, containing a selection of the "Metal" side of HIM. Can hardly wait if this one's anything to go by.

Bear in mind that the tracks on this CD aren't the normal mixes:

- The Sacrament (Disrhythm mix)

- The Funeral of Hearts (Acoustic)

- Join Me In death (Strongroom mix)

- Close to the Flame (Rappula tapes)

- In Joy and Sorrow (String version, same as the Singles collection version)

- It's All Tears (Unplugged, same as Singles Collection)

- When Love and Death Embrace (AOR Radio mix, same as Singles collection)

- Buried Alive By Love (Deliverance version)

Gone With The Sin (O.D. version, same as SC)

- Salt In Our Wounds (Thulsa Doom, same as SC)

- Please Don't Let It Go (Acoustic, same as SC)

- One Last Time (Rockfield Madness version)

- For You (Unplugged, I think same as SC version)

- The Path (P.S. version)

- Lose you Tonight (Thulsa Doom extended dub)

If you've got the Albums these tracks make a good change, and they can be pretty darn hard to get anywhere else.

having seen the link to sample the songs from kerrang, i have to say this is the best album that includes exclusive tracks. the music just grabs you as you listen to the songs and well i'm definately buying it. its a must have for all HIM fans. its really worth buying unless you have all these songs already. the artwork on the cover is breathtakingly beautiful so go buy it.
