4.0 out of 5 stars Girls on top
These four films, which date from the mid 1950s to the mid 1960s, are a great collection to own. Not only do they contain some great British charactor actors - Alistair Sim, Terry Thomas, George Cole et al but they also define an era when life was very different to today. The first film is undoubtedly the best, although the 2nd pushes it fairly close. The fourth is...

3.0 out of 5 stars The St Trinians Collection
It was nice to watch this slapstick old comedy movie of bygone days with some of the old British comedians.

3.0 out of 5 stars One classic, two also-rans, one dud, 28 Jun 2010
This review is from: The St Trinians Collection (4 Disc Box Set) [DVD] (DVD)
Alastair Sim is unforgettable in his dual role as the sly, avaricious Miss Fritton and her criminally inclined brother Clarence in the first film about the anarchic public school for girls (The Belles of St Trinian's), as is Joyce Grenfell as Miss Fritton's honest but dim deputy. The rest of the cast are also excellent, the plot is wild, irreverent and inventive - and most of all the film is just very VERY funny.

It's the only one of the series that this is true of however. By film two Sim is out of the picture (he does appear briefly, but it's just a token appearance - a couple of scenes) and without him Grenfell seems to lose some of her shine too. He's not in the third film at all which like the second is pleasant but unremarkable and by the fourth, which is dire, Grenfell too has given up on the series.

By all means buy the boxset, but be aware that you'll probably find you've bought it for just one film.

1.0 out of 5 stars st trinians box set, 3 Sep 2010
This review is from: The St Trinians Collection (4 Disc Box Set) [DVD] (DVD)
This BoxSet is quite dreadful whilst the films are very good ......problem here is that they are shown 4 x 3 and they should be 16 x 9 @ 1 : 85 : 1 screen ratio and the prints that Optimum have given us are shocking. Furthermore there are NO sub-titles for the Hard of Hearing . AVOID at all costs .....a complete waste of money and an opportuity to release a set of enjoyable films is lost .

Can't go wrong in settling back to watch great British comedy. In choosing this DVD collection you have the pick of the best St.Trinian's mischievous adventures. Alastair Sim heads a fine cast of actors and actresses, many old faces that are a pleasure to see again. The films are in black and white but it does not deter from the quality and at such a reasonable price this collection is well worth the money.

This again was for my daughter on her Xmas visit after the Hurricane and floods in NY. The first DVD would not work, the second was OK - I think - but she fell asleep while watching and I never watched it at all.
