im probably not the best to write a review on a guitar because im only just starting. but i do know a good sound when i hear one and this definitly delivers one, i got the c40 to replace a cheap acoustic i had which was frankly killing my aspirations of learning how to play and i must admit i quite like the slightly smaller size of the classical guitar and the nylon strings. the finger board is alot easier to get around with it been stright instead of tappering. the whole guitar looks quality to be honest and feels it too. I must say i dont like the tuner you get with it and i already owned the same tuner and i dont know if its just that im an amateur but the tuner never registers the strings and notes correctly and you end up doing it by ear the dvd has a tuning section which is quite good for getting the basic tones. a bag wouldnt of gone a miss in the package would of preferd a bag to the tuner but what ya gonna do. so all in all im very pleased with it and alot of other people seem to love the c40.

FAULTESS PACK - GREAT VALUE,
By Dick Pacy "Rabbar" (Northern England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Yamaha C40 classical guitar Basic Pack (Electronics)
I bought this pack as I am switching from electric to classic guitar. I am used to good quality but this time my budget was limited. The whole package was great value. The main item, the guitar, was typically Yamaha good quality, and exceeded my expectations. The rest of the contents - bag, DVD tuner and strings would have cost a great deal more bought separately. I was nervous about buying a guitar without trying it out in a shop, but I had no need to be nervous. I am delighted with this purchase. By the way I do not normally write reviews but this item deserves one.

If you're a beginner or just looking for a reasonably priced practice guitar, this is the one to get. At the time of writing, the pack costs £69.99, which is almost half price and at least £20 cheaper than buying the guitar itself - a bit of a no-brainer really. The case is a bit flimsy, the strap isn't usable with this kind of guitar, the tuner is ok and I haven't watched the DVD yet, but the guitar itself is worth the price alone. It has an amazing tone for this level of product and a very professional finish - better than some more expensive guitars. All I had to do was give the frets a bit of a polish - no ragged edges or burrs. The guitar itself is quite light and produces a fairly bright, clear tone. The strings are even a decent quality, although they may not last particularly long with intensive playing. I play both flamenco and classical and I'm more than pleased with this purchase.

Excellent Instrument,

I didn't have any experience with guitars when I bought this but I clearly say that this guitar sounds lovely when played. It is also well built as mine has taken several little impacts to the body without much of an effect on the resonance.Be sure to understand how to maintain it and change classical guitar strings, as I nearly damaged mine from over tightening. All in all, a great starter instrument.

top class beginners guitar,

first of all you could probably get a beginners guitar for slightly less money but it would be well worth the extra £10 or £20 to buy this yamaha.i am very impressed by the set up, sound quality etc. this is the kind of beginners instrument that makes you want to carry on and progress. as it is a classical guitar i would have appreciated a footstool in the package, a necessity, unlike the dvd, which when teaching the mission impossible theme?? contains the immortal line " let your right hand do what it wants to and it will probably be nearly right"!! great guitar though!

When I purchased this product in March 2009 for £68.33 it was excellent value. OK the DVD may not be much use but the tuner and carry case are reasonable and the real winner is the wonderful rich warm tone of the C40. Now(July 2009) it is sold by amazon for £60 more at £129, don't get me wrong it is still a geat instrument. Just remember that some of those reviews that say what great value it is will be becase they paid £60 less for it!

Yamaha equipment is renowned for quality, and this guitar is no exception. It has good tone and projection, and it sounds as good as guitars that cost much more. This would be a good choice for a beginner, because its playability will ensure that you won't get frustrated because of poor build quality. The basic pack is an absolute bargain .... don't miss out!

Excellent guitar for such a price,

I was surprised by the very nice sound that this guitar has! I have been playing guitar for 15 years so I have an experience on this. I haven't used the dvd that is included in this package. The guitar case is also very good since you can carry it on your shoulders and not have to worry about it. The price of this guitar is very good in relation to the very nice sound and easy of playing. I am very happy that I have purchased this and very satisfied!

Great value!,

I was choosing between the starter-grade Yamaha C40 and other beginner guitars like Jose Ferrer, which are 2-3 times cheaper. It was until I had the chance to try them all and hear/feel the difference :) From that moment on Yamaha set a new baseline for me - the sound, the build, the vibe of the deck is totally worth the price difference. It is very easy to play and has perfect tuning. The kit itself is quite nice, you get: * Yamaha-branded bag (quite nice for storage and transportation in nice weather, but nothing more than that) * Pack of non-Yamaha branded strings (I find the strings that came on the guitar itself good enough, so basically that's a spare kit for free) * Yamaha-branded tuner, which is designed for electric and bass guitars, but also has a mic and works with acoustic guitars perfectly (batteries included). * You also get a sort-of quick-start DVD which gave a good laugh - it's designed for those who never played a guitar before. Pretty useless. The packaging is also quite solid - my package arrived with a hole in it, but the guitar was undamaged, as it's protected by a separate box of thick carton and the strings are wrapped in protective paper cover. It comes ready to play with strings toned down a little (for safety of transportation). I was able to get it running in 5 minutes, and three days after it shows no signs of need for tuning (I used to spend up to a week waiting for new strings to "settle" on my previous guitar). Considering that most stores sell C40 alone for 120-140GBP, getting the pack for 95 was a bargain. I would definitely recommend anyone using simpler guitars to try this one.

Good product for the money. Sound quality is satisfying but the cd given with the pack is not useful at all especially for classical guitar users.
