Another variant on a familiar theme
on 16 March 2009
As a fan of adventures that transcend the bounds of time (and a fan of Sandra Bullock), I was keen to watch this film, but I found it somewhat disappointing. The characters, setting, plot and its dénouement are reasonable enough, but I found the two-year gap between the characters' time frames, as well as the reason (if there was one) for their ability to communicate across that gap, unconvincing. For me it was a poor rehash of The Love Letter (1999, starring Scott Campbell and Jennifer Jason Leigh - not to be confused with The Love Letter, 1999, starring Kate Capshaw and Tom Selleck!), in which the time gap is a full century, with echoes of Frequency (2000, starring Dennis Quaid and Jim Caviezel), where there's a 30-year gap.
I'm glad I watched this film (and that I was able to buy it cheap through Amazon, rather than pay the full retail price!), but it doesn't rank as one of the best in my collection.
