I love it!!!
on 5 December 2007
I bought this to replace a two year old Bissell model (which still works; it is just going to reside upstairs now) and am totally impressed with the improvements in design that have been made.
One of the most irritating issues I had with the old machine was that the hose fell off from time to time - not a big problem, but irritating none the less. This has been solved by the addition of a catch. A further improvement has been made to the design of the hard floor attachment - to the extent that it is now fit for purpose. Instead of leaving the floor really wet and not really doing a good job of cleaning, the attachment now leaves the floor pretty dry and, because it picks up more of the dirty water, it is cleaner too!
I find that my machine cleans best if I run it over the carpet dispensing just water (once), then follow it up with the shampoo mixture, then rinse twice with water. That seems to provide the best conditions for the shampoo to do a good level of cleaning. One thing that I discovered with my previous machine was that I tended to try to shampoo the carpets far more quickly than recommended (the older Bissell model had a line of lights to guide you towards using it at the optimum speed). Sadly, this feature is not included in this machine but if you move the cleaner really slowly over the carpets (probably a third to a quarter of the speed that you would vacuum) then you should be close to the optimum cleaning speed. The slower you move it, the better the cleaning you will achieve.
I clean my carpets around once a year thoroughly and deal with spot-problems as they arise. Normally any minor pet accidents are handled by using Bissell OxyKic, but a rinse of the area (no shampoo) using the Bissell cleaner helps ensure an even tone is maintained in the carpet. The bottles of cleaning solution do get used up fairly quickly, but I can clean four carpets plus a runner with one bottle using my method of wetting the carpet first.
It is so easy to clean this machine in comparison to previous models - all of the front section can be removed easily (one screw to undo) so that there is no problem removing fluff under the tap. The best addition to the design however is a carrying handle - so much easier to move around the house now.
A minor gripe - I don't know why the gadget that indicated when you had run out of formula/water has been removed from this model. I found that rather useful, but the benefits of this machine far outweigh this small drawback.
I really cannot recommend Bissell carpet cleaners highly enough. They have kept my ivory carpets clean even with traffic from five cats that love to get muddy paws. My carpets still look like new, which would definitely not be the case without this cleaner.
