5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect rice everytime
I am really pleased with this rice cooker. It's very simple to use, basically you measure out how many cups of rice you want ie 1 cup per person, add the equivalent in water switch it on and wait about 10 mins and voila, perfect rice. You can also put your rice on to cook, leave it and then it will switch over to the keep warm function when it is ready so it doesn't...

3.0 out of 5 stars Loooks good, cooks well but........
it's very stylish does what it says on the box. it steams well, however the spout on the lid is either too big or something is faulty because it lets out far too much starch splattering on very surface. Wouldn't buy again.

I am really pleased with this rice cooker. It's very simple to use, basically you measure out how many cups of rice you want ie 1 cup per person, add the equivalent in water switch it on and wait about 10 mins and voila, perfect rice. You can also put your rice on to cook, leave it and then it will switch over to the keep warm function when it is ready so it doesn't burn, so if you need to pop out for an hour or so you can put it on before you leave and it is ready and waiting when you get back. I haven't really had any problems with it overflowing or leaving a starchy mess either...I usually only cook up to about 3 cups worth so maybe the problems occur if you cook larger quantities.

I have had lots of prefect rice from this and steamed veggies too. I have had it now for a year and I am going to buy my mum one for christmas. Be gentle with the non-stick bowl though,Breville RC3 Family Rice Cooker & Steamer 1.8L and always use the spoon they provide you with, otherwise you scratch it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor lid configuration, 1 Feb 2010

It looks good and the cooked rice it produces is fine. Those people who have given this cooker a good review - I wonder if they've ever owned a rice cooker before they bought this one. If I'd never had once before I might think that the excessive steam and starch that leaks out of the lid is standard for all rice cookers. It's not. I used to have a Royal Doulton branded one. It met with an unfortunate accident in my kitchen! Anyway, I got this breville one to replace it. The lid on the Royal Doulton clamps shut, as it does on other rice cookers as well. It had a small nozzle on top for the release of steam and this could be angled away from your kitchen cupboards and anything else that you didn't want steamed up whilst cooking the rice. The breville has a poorly fitting lid and when the cooker is in use, this lid bounces around on a cushion of steam between lid and cooker bowl. This creates air gaps allowing steam to escape from all sides of the lid and not just through the steam hole in the top. Due to this design flaw, the cooker needs to be pulled right out to the front of my kitchen worktop (the old one could stay snugly against the wall), meaning that I have to keep my toddler out of the kitchen whilst it's in use and actually adults have to keep a fair distance from it as well.

One thing I did like is the recipe book that came with it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Breville RC3 Rice Cooker and Steamer, 25 April 2011

This product is not very well made, my 1st Breville RC3 Rice Cooker and Steamer stopped working after 3 months of purchase, seemed the base plate had melted. I called Amazon and they provided excellent service and sent a replacement very quickly - however a few months later the same thing happened again. Possibly it's a design fault. Plus when using it to cook rice, the lid sputters and causes a mess. I would not reccommend this product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too big for one person..., 15 April 2009

This rice cooker is far too big for one person, I wish I'd read the descriptions properly and gone for the Ainsley Harriet compact model!

Anyway, I placed one cup of brown rice with one and a half cups of water, as recommended, and after the recommended 15 minutes some of the rice had stuck to the 'non stick' pan and burned. I had to place another half cup of water in, stir, and cook for a further 5 minutes before MANUALLY flicking the switch to warm. This cooker certainly does not automatically switch to warm when cooked, as one reviewer mentions. How would it know how much rice and water is in there? You have to keep your eye on the time recommended in the manual or it burns, as it would on the hob!

All in all, wish I'd never bothered. I could have no doubt achieved the same results with a glass lid covered pan on the hob if I'd have known how much water to use to steam rice correctly in the first place (which I admittedly didnt prior to reading the manual with this!).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Rice Cooker, 10 Oct 2010

I have had one of these cookers for a number of years, so when I needed a new one (nothing lasts forever) I had to have this one again. Have had the new one for about four weeks and it's as good as the first one.
I have never had any "splattering", just great rice. The key might be to make sure the rice is well washed and follow the simple instructions.
This rice cooker does it for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars RC3 Rice-cooker, 2 Mar 2009

This is a great little rice-cooker which makes excellent rice if you follow the simple instructions in the recipe and instruction booklet that comes with it. I've cooked different varieties of rice in mine, including wholemeal brown rice. I have never experienced any 'starchy bubbles' or starchy spurting from the steam-vent as others appear to have suffered. If you wash the rice thoroughly before cooking, you get no starchy bubbles at all, just excellent cooked rice. Rice should be thoroughly washed even when cooking in an old-fangled pan on the hob. It only takes a few minutes and is hardly an onerous chore. I've never filled the cooker to capacity though, and have never needed to cook more than 2 Cups of rice (to serve 4 people).

It's also great for making stews, but you can't leave it alone as you can with rice-cooking or the stew will boil dry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice & Easy, 24 Aug 2012

Awesome item does more than some of the other brands on the market. As it is also a steamer I'd advise people to get one if looking for a rice / steamer / cooker. Was highly impressed by it. It is very easy to use. You can steam any veg faster, safer and cleaner way. You get the best rice, well cooked. Even if u add a bit more water you get a bit more tender food, which is best for young kids.

Cooks to perfection without being stuck to the bottom, and losing half down the sink when draining the conventional way! THE BEST FEATURE is the world rice function...
Cooks egg fried rice, Mexican rice, pilau rice, rice pudding and the most impressive the Indian tricolour rice by adding a few drops of different coloured food colouring turns you rice multicoloured... AMAZING!!!
I now have rice for breakfast lunch and dinner my dog even enjoys it!

Great product, great value and worth the money I spend.

1.0 out of 5 stars second time and still rubbish, 23 Sep 2010
This review is from: Breville RC3 Rice Cooker and Vegetable Steamer (Kitchen & Home)
We bought this to replace a Tefal we had previously, which we managed to break ourselves.
The first ones element melted, we had it replaced now the second one keeps switching off even when the rice isn't ready. We'll be going back to a Tefal.
