The Skytronic 45 Watt step down transformer does exactly what is expected of it.
The unit does start to smell of "overheated electronics" after it has been plugged in for several hours, although I suspect this might be just "burning off" the newness of the device.
One thing to note that is wrongly advised by the Seller: This device is not actually a "USA to UK Step Down converter" it is a UK to USA Voltage step down device. That is, it converts 240 Volts down to 120 Volts so that you can plug in and use USA devices here in the UK.

The main thing to remember and check BEFORE you buy or use this item is that the device you want to plug in consumes LESS than 45 watts.
For example, this transformer is suitable for USA shavers, electric toothbrushes and Waterpiks but don't attempt to plug in a USA kettle, which would take far more power than this device is capable of supplying!

The units failed after a few hours of operating at 35W (PC speakers). The product might be good at a lower wattage but definitely can't provide the advertised power.

Bought one to use with a 110v lamp. The lamp is only drawing 18w but still gets very hot. Nervous about leaving it unattended.

I bought a Nintendo DS in Florida about a month back, and bought a US -> UK adapter but i needed a step down converter.

This one worked great.
There's no chance of going anywhere near 45W, i think the DS does around 1W if that lol.

So if you went abroad and bought a PSP, DS, Camera's etc. so anything electrical that needs charging this is a good choice for you.

It's really cheap as well, so there's nothing to complain about.

The only thing that might be an issue is that it can get quite warm, so don't be stupid and leave it my flammable stuff, say like your bed.

No problems at all. Does the job but I'm only using it for a Japanese shaver recharger so I'm not pushing it very hard. Be nice if they could make it more modern looking and more compact.

I went abroad for the first time, and had borrowed a converter/adapter set from a friend. However, I never got the converter to work, so all my electronics were running out of juice. With the last bit of electricity in my computer, I ordered this on the UK site, expedited the shipping so it would arrive at the B&B before I moved on to the next one. It worked great, and feels like a quality product. Best of all, it let me continue to take pictures and keep in touch with family and friends back home.

I had purchased this for use with grooming kit that I bought from US and there were no UK chrger and adapter to fit with 1.6v and long pin. This delivered the required voltage for the charger. Mind you though there is humming noise from the unit itself and it does not convert the frequency from 50Hz to 60Hz. In most of the cases it should not be the problem. Leave plenty of space for this unit and your us pin as this be tripping hazard if your socket is near to door entry or in tight space.

I purchased this item so that I could use an expensive digital alarm clock with time zone switching, (bought in the USA), on cruise ships. Some use 240 volts and others use 110 volts. I can now use the clock on either system, as well as in England and on the Continent.
It is small and convenient to carry and works perfectly. I am extremely pleased with this product.

I'm not sure the story here, but I bought 2 of these to work a pair or USA powerheads for my fish tank.
The powerheads are 120/60v and 20something w
The step downs are 110v and max 40something w

Now this to me should work, but both of these lasted all of 20-30 minutes before I smelt a melting plastic and the powerheads just stopped.
Powerheads aren't demanding, so this is just frustrating.

As you see in the item photo, there is an earth hole....or so we thought.
We needed a converter for a USA electronic device which had an earth.
But when the item arrived, there was NO earth.
