What can I say? This Dvd is one of the best concert films i have seen. The band are so together and cool. Black Francis (Frank Black)is such a enigmatic leader with Kim Deal on that bass!! The re formed for the money and good!! The whole concert is brilliant lots of chitter chatter and a great Neil Young cover to boot

Buy it!

Having not previously bought any Pixies albums or DVD's other than as presents for others I got this one as well as the Newport acoustic set DVD. With repeated plays I've really grown to like this band and especially this set from Boston, which of course is just over the water from Rhode Island where the acoustic set was recorded. So obviously the were recorded only days apart. Both sets are good but this one is really quite excellent, taking that I knew very little of their material before buying it.The on stage banter, the superb Neil Young cover makes you realise that his songs suit this band so well, their style is a good fit to Neil's more grungy outings but Winterland works an absolute treat. All through this DVD has good humour, certainly great playing by the band who have such a great front man as Frank Black, who earlier this year gave an solo set on the side of the road in Oxford. This comes heartily recommended if you like The Pixies or to those like me who had heard of the band but not other than the odd snippet never caught up with their music.I have now and I love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worthy, but unneccessary additions that do not enhance the great legacy..., 30 Jun 2007

Overall, whilst it adds nothing much to the Pixies legacy, it certainly plugs the gap between then and the still-non-existent new album quite satisfactorily.

However, the law of diminishing returns performs no favours : "Club Date" is a more pedestrian offer. The set may be longer, and feature several later songs not on their other `reformation' DVD, it also feels a little boring. Like 2005's "SellOut" set, the Pixies perform a full set in one go, playing nothing but old songs to an adoring crowd. This time they are performed in a 200 capacity club, consisting of tight camerawork, unexceptional editing, and an overall perfunctory air of contractual obligation. The release is of a similar technical standard to the Acoustic Disc, but the extras (a 1 camera low grade VHS copy of the first filmed Pixies date, which is both depressingly poor quality and only 22 minutes long) are at best a novelty. The overall impression is - if you have any previous set from their reformation era - "Club Date" is superfluous at best, whilst "Acoustic In Newport" is an entertaining and interesting revision of past work.

Not essential.
