Not The Best Waking The Dead Series, But Still Enjoyable
on 24 March 2013
Now, don't get me wrong, Waking the dead is a fantastic series. I love the show, but this is its weakest series.
The third series of Waking the dead is still a fine addition to the series, with the cast that was assembled in the previous two installments. It still develops the characters and after series two you were really getting into it and involved with the cast and knowing the faces and their characteristics. It is all still high-budget stuff with: top-notch actors (some you will have seen from other shows), great themes, an excellent and perfectly fitting soundtrack, superb production, and nice locations and sets. everything you got from the other two series, except the stories are weaker in this one. Not saying they are all bad, you may disagree, but compared with the previous two series, they are. I will give you a rundown of the episodes you get in this set (all 2 parters as usual.)
Multistorey - Now, after having read the reviews and write-ups about this one, I was expecting this episode to absoloutley blow me away and for me to be mesmerised at what I saw. One site I looked at said that this was the "Number 1" episode! Well, I went into it expecting to see some of the finest televison I had seen in years. But no, it was "Average", not the highest of my ratings. Multistory is not bad, it is watchable, but the plot is weak in my view. It does tie up all the loose ends, something Waking the dead dosen't always do. But I was expecting it to be much more better in quality.
Walking on water - This is an improvement. After the first part, I came out completley enthralled. But then it got too confusing after that with loads of things going off at once, and you couldn't keep up with it. The premise is good, but the convulted storyline knocked the rating down in the ranks, scoring a "Good"
Breaking Glass - I will be blunt, this is the worst episode of Waking the dead ever...it was slow, had a weak plot and was silly really. It only picked up in the last twenty minutes or so of part 2 and that only just made up for your spirits. The story made sense at the end, but sitting their for 1 hour and 40 mins bored stiff, it does really have an effect on you. It got "Below Average", one off "Poor" which is my lowest rating, sorry guys but I can only review properly, or theres no point reviewing at all.
Final Cut - The reason this set got three stars instead of one is because of this episode because Final Cut was "Excellent." I was so relieved when I saw the quality of this one. It was a fantastic series finale, with a really engaging plot and lots of questions you wanted answering. Great Stuff! I loved this episode.
This was not the best series of the shows nine year run, I am going through the whole box set with felloow company. Having said that, it wasn't bad. Walking on water is worth a look and definately spend 2 hours trying Final Cut out.
The series really heats up after this series so strap yourself in folkes, Waking the dead is just getting started!
