The Sontaran Experiment is a great story set on Earth before London was built. A lone Sontaran has been dispatched to conduct experiments on humans to establish their weaknesses before the invasion fleet arrives. The sontaran used is the most impressive in all of the sontaran stories, and the other pleasure in this story is the robot, as well as the idylic countryside setting. All of the characters are impressive, it's a shame this story was only two expisodes!

In this reasonably well acted production. The Fourth Doctor and his companions encounter and outwit the sontaran race once more, in this drivable but nonetheless enjoyable yarn.
Nice one to watch on a wet afternoon with a cuppa of tea (just don't share it with a sontaran).

Tom's Doctor, Sarah-Jane Smith and Harry Sullivan. Short, but fun with a rather amusing story (intentionally or not) which kept me smiling. It's complimented by great scenery. The simple story with limited 'sets' was a delightful change to follow on from 'Arc In Space'.

Wow! I've had to pinch myself that this is coming out on DVD soon. I've always loved this two-parter, and I thought I'd have to wait a few more years until this saw the light of day.

This is written by Bob Baker and Dave Martin, and it is set on Earth sometime in the far future on a bleak and barren landscape of hills and mountains (this was shot on Dartmoor). The Doctor, Sarah and Harry arrive here, where they come across a small group of humans who are getting captured and then used for sadistic experiments by Styre - a Sontaran (a race of time travelling warriors). It's enough to make you think twice about going for long distance mountain walks.

This is an action packed adventure that is full of tension, fear and excitement, plus it is filmed entirely outdoors. It hasn't dated that much, simply because there are very few special effects in this classic two-parter. Let's celebrate its release!

Have to say "Busted Flush "Mark""'s review is a bit misguied - the DVD is actually not being sold as a full price release.

It's specifically being sold as a cutdown type release at a reduced price point. I'd say this was actually above and beyond what they needed to do given that they regularly sell 6 parters without hiking the price upwards! It's the story, not running length that you're buying - in event the picture quality will be infinitely superior to the old VHS version...

Great story by the way!

For all those out there who rate the quantity of extras over the quality of the entertainment of the main feature - shame on you!

What we have here is a QUALITY two-part adventure that sees The Fourth Doctor take on Styre (Not Linx as in The Time Warrior) the Sontaran and attempt to stop his sadistic experiments.

As it is only a two-parter there is no time for the plot to drag and certainly no time to delve into needless sub-plots that take up valuble time. What we are left with is a crisp, polished, action packed and above all highly entertaining adventure.

I give it five stars on the basis of the story alone and condem anyone who offers less than that based on the lack of special features.

Despite this being a 'Standard Edition' release, there are going to be the following extras:

Audio commentary

Production note subtitles

Built for War, a 40 minute featurette about the history of the Sontarans

Photo gallery

The RRP currently shown of £19.99 is probably a mistake. Other sites show the RRP of this as being £12.99.

5 stars for value for money. I haven't seen the story yet.
