This review is from: Taiga (Audio CD)
'Featuring Yoshimi from the Boredoms' as the blurb proudly states. Needless to say half my street ran out and bought a copy as soon as they saw that. More varied than the superduper psychedelic workout of Gold and Green, my favourite tracks here are the extensive, trance-like SAI and the twin tracks UMA and UMO, with their fantastic tribalicious percussion and chanted vocals. As you'd expect from a band featuring 'Yoshimi from the Boredoms', the percussion is an important part of the overall feel - last track IOA, another highlight, opens out into a fantastic funky carnival of bongoes and angular guitars. Still think there's a great similarity to the later Slits stuff, not that that's a bad thing. They also remind me a lot of Rip, Rig and Panic, the jazz/indie band that Neneh Cherry used to be in. Have you heard them? They were great too.
