I haven't seen a single review of this new album - not for want of searching - which leads me to wonder if Mono-fi Records has a marketing department at all, or if this record has been deliberately "undermarketed" so that it acquires cult status. Anyway, here's my review, possibly the first in the big wide world. I bought it on the strength of VH's previous album, Big Beautiful Sky, which always puts a grin on my face and a rabbit-like spring in my step. The Colors in the Wheel (note American spelling) is not quite as melody-stuffed as that album, but the electronics are more idiosyncratic and confident and Annette Strean's vocals are just as skilful and gorgeous. The chorus of "Birds and Fishes" is a strange and infectious highlight, and "Yes and No" is a superbly feisty message about (I think) sexual consent. "Surgery in the Sky" joins a highly exclusive playlist of songs that concern themselves with alien abduction. What more could you ever need? Buy it and let it grow, I say. Then write more reviews so other music lovers can do the same!
