This game is by far the best in the series, there is tons of playable characters, the graphics are great, they really holds true to the series, the fighting mechanics are good and music track is really good, some of the music makes you want to beat your opponent harder. But getting the fighters to actually level up is kind of confusing and the controls can be quite difficult as it just so hard to get the combinations right and your thumbs start to ache from relentlessly mashing the triangle and square buttons, but the sheer briliance of the game makes you forget about your almost inevitable development of arthritis because it's just that good.

I own this game and personally i have to say it is very good and extremely cool, there are a lot more characters than previous dbz games and there are even new forms! Also the AI's are sometimes hard to beat and there is even a few hidden storylines which you can unlock in various ways. I found this game really brilliant and worthy of a five-star rating for fun and overall, i definetely believe this is the best dbz game of all time!

After the immense disappointment of purchasing and playing through the first tenkaichi, I was a litle reluctant to give this new title a chance, expecting the same generic moves spread over even more characters and the same overly hard David vs Goliath match ups, but thank Christ I was wrong! As you may have guessed Budokai Tenkaichi 2 delivers the same 3 dimensional flying, blasting, teleporting, high speed fighting game that it should be, and for the first time I have to say about a Dragonball Z game, it captured the battles to near perfection. All the voice acting is more or less reasonable, it can be extremely quiet at times but it's more or less consistently good. The story cut-scenes are okay, they capture the feel quite well, but a lot of the time characters actions just aren't dramatic enough, everything seems very placid during them, which is a big contrast to when you're battling and you just feel like everythings going crazy, there are also a couple of in-game engine cut-scenes, but these are usually just the characters standing there talking, which is frustrating at best with the excessively long and frequent load times, which can be especially frustrating on the world map when you visit a useless area by accident and are punished with 40 seconds of a loading screen. The game's characters are very true to the series, with all the big powers really being big powers, unfortunately, while this may be quite good in single player, whether you're toppling a super power or crushing a light weight it brings up the huge balance problem tenkaichi 2 has, and it's not just how much damage the specials do or how fast they melee either, the bigger powers get an advantage in everything, most of them use little ki, they get a bigger gap of time to teleport evade attacks in and some of them, such as broly, get the giant status, and therefore do not react to normal melee, which is pretty much the core of your attack, while this flaw is overcome by simply selecting a more powerful character, it's still an annoying aspect when you so desperately want to win as Bardock but your opponent is insisting on being omega shenron or a super sayain 4. The game also suffers from a music score that's mediocre at it's best, offering a couple of good tracks but all of them are forgetable. The graphics are cell shaded, as expected and look consistently great throughout. When it all comes down to it though, Tenkaichi 2 is all about fun, and it's fantastic fun, even with the balance issues it's a great multiplayer game as well as a fantastic single player game, it's easily the most authentic and well produced Dragonball Z experience around and I highly recommend it to any fan of the long running series.

This is exactly what one wants from a fighting game: characters with a wide array of fighting combinations, power attacks and a typical method for gaining specials. Although, the story mode is at times mundane, even for a mega fan like myself, with too few videos and sometimes poor dialogue which doesn't ring true, the fighting never fails to amuse the gamer; and that is, after all the main thing. The graphics are perfect, in that they reflect almost precisely the cartoon, the destructibility of the surrounding scenery and fighting arenas is brilliant and as an added bonus for fans, following completion of the game, you are treated to a totally absurd but always highly amusing storyline involving Zarbon and his betrayal of Frieza to gain everlasting beauty from the Dragonballs (utterly hilarious). This game reflects accurately the fighting styles and moves etc. that the Z-warriors and foes display in the cartoon and it also has a strangely long life for a game of this nature.

I own this game for the Wii and PS2 and although i now prefer the Wii, they are both practically the same game just with different controls. As to the actual game, the graphics are stunning, the story mode offers hours of fun, working through DragonBall Z to GT. With around 120 characters you'll never get bored. It delivers loads of fighting fun and you look forward to unlocking the new characters and power levels The cut scenes are often annoying as you just want to get to the fighting, but are neccessary to tell the story. And the only other problem is the battle areas - at first they look massive, but when you start fighting and you smash your opponent flying you notice them hit a big laser grid. This shows just how limited the areas actually are, with this limiting the fighting area all they way around. Altogether an excellent purchase and well worth getting for hours of fun!

I was reluctant to buy this as based on the videos I had seen it wasn't that good. However after my first few matches I was hooked. The game reflects the show perfectly from what I can remember.AUDIO: Accurate from the shows and it really does add to it. At first I had my radio on and thought the whole thing was subtitled but it is not. The voices are, I think, supplied by the same people who did the voice overs for the shows. The only problem with it is that it is not quite in sync ewith the lips as I think they are in Japanese (don't quote me though). The moves all have the same sound effects as the show and it brings back so many memories. SCORE: 23/25 GRAPHICS: I am not really a fan of cell shading, especially when the surrounding environments are not cell shaded, it just looks stupid in my opinion. This works though for some reason. Also due to the fact that the characters are cartoons, it does look good and is the only way it could have been done. All of the characters look like they should aswell which is brilliant. SCORE: 20/25 GAMEPLAY: I know the shows only really used punch, kick and KI moves but I would have thought that there would have been more than about 10 basic moves for each person. It is incredibly simple to do huge amount of damages without reall working for it. Simply hit square a few times, then hold it down so you get some distance between the pair of you and then hold L2 and pres triangle. A massive amount of damage without trying. I would have thought that fighting the computer as a level 52 opponent would have been hard with a level 8 character. No, follow the steps I said and it is easy. SCORE: 19/25 LIFESPAN: This game is simply huge. A fifty hour story mode (covering most if not all of the dragonball heritage) that allows to fight nearly every fight seen in the shows, a few you don't get to, they are simply cutscenes. You also have to unlock a ton of stuff to add on and make the characters better. All of which makes the story huge and if you liked the series thoroughly enjoyable. There are also nine different modes including lots of tournaments such as the cell games and the world tournament to compete in. There are also 75 different characters in over 100 forms which adds to the sheer size of the game. My only gripe is that because of the size of what is included the arenas are limtied to a certain size. You can boot your opponent so many times so that they end up at the end of the arena, then they get stuck there until you boot them away again (which is tough sometimes) or until they attack you. SCORE: 24/25 Overall Score: 86/100. If you want a decent beat 'em up that doesn't require much effort buy this game. If you want a more complex fighter with a lot skill involved then buy Tekken or another game along those lines.

The originals graphic weren't great, the gameplay was repeatitive the character system was flawed, it lacked a lot. This one however, good sweet lord what an improvement. Theres loads to do in the game the graphics are superb the gameplay is actually true to the cartoon, you actually feel as though the character you're using has the appropriate power level. The experiance points system I mean I could go on and on After having played the first one for so long I feel like I just traded my clapped out Cinclair C5 for a Honda S2000 with spearmint headlights and a new car scent, awesome.

The chances are, if you're looking at this game then you know about DBZ and have quite possibly played any of the previous games. We all know how much of a dissapointment Tenkaichi 1 was and the developers have done a great job of adding new features to this game to make it what we originally expected. Although this games core mechanics are essentially the same, there are so many 'little' things that work together to make the game great. The gameplay is very familiar. There are new melee moves you can do which do add a lot more variety. Most of the characters have individual moves now as opposed to last year and they all look a lot better too. IGT's have been added and give more variety. Arenas are bigger, although not as big as some people may say (perfectly big enough though). Story mode has new features, but isn't as special as it was hoped to be. Plenty of good new characters added including Pikkon and Super 13. Other Modes have been given more depth. Character customisation is a lot more like Budokai 3 now which is pretty good. The voice overs for this game are good for the most part, except some of the less important characters don't have the correct voices which sounds a bit weird. The music is pretty poor as always, although slighty improves on Tenkaichi 1 (just turn it off and play your own). Overall, Tenkaichi 2 is what the first should of been. All the things the fans wanted are here. 120 characters, 15 destructable arenas, character customisation, alternate costumes, tag team/team battles, better graphics, better moves, bigger arenas, 'free roam' story mode, In game transformations and everything else you can think of. There is lots to complete and collect... will last much longer than the last game. I really reccomend this game to dbz fans and even any general fighting game fans (as long as you don't mind being puzzled by the uninformative story and some of the game's 'younger audience moments'). |
