They may not have been able to play on this debut LP, but the songs speak for themselves, some of the finest Brill Building tunes you're likely to hear. No, they were nowhere near being like the Beatles, but as manufactured pop goes, these guy's were the 'real' deal.

I have my sister to blame for my love for the monkees! She was a big David Jones fan way back when!
From the first Budum... Here we come... To the joke 'I need a glass of water' Why you thirsty? No I want to see if my neck leaks!' This album pops along like no other! You knew they didn't play their instruments on this and mimed badly on the tv show! But that didn't matter Davy Jones and Mickey Dolenz had the voices (slightly flat sometimes) to carry these songs off perfectly! I haven't heard this new remastered extra tracks version yet so I can't really comment on it! Also Mike Nesmith adds a lot with the great Sweet Young Thing!
