5.0 out of 5 stars Cuckoos in the nest.
One afternoon in the English village of Midwich everyone falls asleep. When they awaken some hours later it seems as if everything is normal, but soon all the women and girls of childbearing age, even those claiming to be virgins, are found to be pregnant. When they give birth the children are all strangely alike with flaxen hair and golden eyes.Soon they begin to exert a...

2.0 out of 5 stars Strange & curious little movies
I have read that these films are considered to be cult classics and I don't doubt they have that quirky appeal about them. But as stand-alone movies they are disappointing, and try too hard to be labelled weird. There's not much in the way of a storyline, and a good deal of the acting is stilted at best. The less said about the ending of "Village.." the better, as it...

4.0 out of 5 stars Old fashion thriller, 29 Aug. 2010

I bought these two films as I enjoyed both the book and the dated film the "Day of the Triffids" by John Wyndam. One of the films (I Think) is an adaptation of another of his books (I believe it was something like the Midwitch Cuckoos). Another reasom that I bought both films was that I was not able to watch them when I was young as they were classed as "too scary". Although the cast and the scenes are very dated it was great just to sit back and watch both films. You always know what's going to happen next and I think that's half the fun in watching both films. You need to watch them in order.

But as stand-alone movies they are disappointing, and try too hard to be labelled weird. There's not much in the way of a storyline, and a good deal of the acting is stilted at best. The less said about the ending of "Village.." the better, as it appears the production company ran out of time, money or interest. Perhaps all three.
It certainly did nothing to justify a sequel, which does little to conjure up much in the way of chills or thrills. Any 1970s Dr Who episode would be far more satisfying and original.
