4.0 out of 5 stars soul men
Sam & Dave were one of the greatest soul acts of the second half of the 1960s, famed for a live act that rivalled James Brown for energy and excitement. Their records are pretty fine too - if you only know Soul Man, be assured there's plenty more where that came from. Sam & Dave were one of the greatest soul acts of the second half of the 1960s, famed for a live act that rivalled James Brown for energy and excitement. Their records are pretty fine too - if you only know Soul Man, be assured there's plenty more where that came from. However, 2 CDs of Sam & Dave is perhaps a little more than you need - some of the tunes on here are definitely filler - but on the other hand, no other available compilation contains all their classics, making it as definitive a Sam & Dave compilation as you can buy. Shame about the ugly generic sleeve though.

It is a double album and a lot of the tunes sound similar to each other. A single album would have covered all bases for me. That doesn't detract from there being good a selection of classic tracks on the album.
