Good value for money, 7 Oct 2006
Disappointed that it doesn't have S-VHS output (though it has HDMI) nor optical out. Never mind, video connection easy and good picture. Progressive scan great.
** Important ** the unlock code for this unit differs to the predecessors (340E and 350E). Open the drawer, and use remote control to type "2-4-0-3-9-6-0-9" setting unit to all regions. If you look at the screen when you type the last digit you will see "9" appear briefly (all regions).
If you need a specific region for a RCA encoded disk substitute the region of the disk for the "9" at the end e.g.: 24039602 for region 2.
5 Stars would have been for the asking had it not been for the lack of S-VHS and quite a bright blue bar light that is on when the unit is switched on.
Hope this is useful to you.

The good, the bad and the ugly, 16 Aug 2006
The good: DivX support, up-scales your current DVD collection, small and compact, it is multiregion with a simple code....
Multi Region via remote control:
Open the tray.
Type 2,4,0,3,9,6,0.
Your region will be shown.
Press enter to cycle to region 9 (region free).
Close the tray.
Turn the player off.
Turn it back on.
The bad: No HDMI cable in the box (unlike Samsung HD850), bright blue LED lights up the room when turned on
The ugly: compared with the Samsung HD850 which is not much more expensive the design is terrible, it isn't offensive, but doesn't look very stylish either, oh well, at least it's thin!
I gave this product 4/5 stars because the the unit plays Divx movies really well, which was a big plus for me, the fact that it doesn't come with a HDMI cable (the Samsung HD850 does) is not the end of the world, the Samsung one would probably have poor sheilding, better to get a quality one anyway.
I have a toshiba LCD TV and the remote is able to control this unit too so it was a big plus as I dont have to use yet another remote.
The picture quality is top notch, despite the fact the Samsung HD850 looks so much better and comes with HDMI cable I am glad I bought the Toshiba, I will put some layers of black insulation tape over the blue LED however!!

Great player for the price, 24 Dec 2006
I bought this player to connect to a Tosh LCD screen, I think it is a great bit of kit for the price, but one thing they don't mention in the manual is that if you plan to hook it up with an HDMI cable (supplied free) you first need to connect with a scart lead (not supplied) to access the DVD's set up menu and then activate the HDMI socket.

Super player and excellent value, 16 Dec 2006
Superb player and excellent value for the price. Yes the blue light can be a bit annoying BUT if you want to turn it off then goto the menu, then go to rating and then across to dim ctrl and turn it off. Its a pain having to do this everytime, unless you like the light, but only takes a second. Overall I think it's one of the best on the market at the moment.

A great multi-region player as reviewed by What Hi-Fi? Magazine (Dec '06), 30 Dec 2006
Having looked at what previous Amazonians had said about this player (and after having bought one myself) I just wanted to add my two pence to the list of reviews.
I've had this DVD player for about 2 weeks and I think it's one of the best available. The picture quality is second to none, especially when used with a good HDMI cable. However, one gripe (as a previous reviewer pointed out) is the lack of S-VHS support. This is a real shame, as my previous Toshiba player featured this and I found it made a notable difference to the image quality when used with my old style CRT TV.
The sounds are dynamic and full of verve. The DVD player features a menu system that's easy to navigate and allows users to turn off the overly bright blue light on the front. The SD360E was also reviewed by What Hi-Fi? magazine recently, where it received a ton of praise.
At the time, I bought this product from Amazon at £59.99 (including free delivery) which is an absolute steal! There are players in supermarkets, such as Sainsburys or Tesco, which cost more and offer a lot less. And now Toshiba have even decided to throw in a free HDMI cable! What more could you ask for?
To summarise, this is great little player from Toshiba, ideal for those looking to make their first entry into the DVD arena. Or if you've already got a DVD player and feel somewhat underwhelmed by the quality, pick up one of these and see what you've been missing!

Front blue led too bright, but now comes with HDMI cable!, 15 Dec 2006
An excellent machine, stunning picture quality over component and HDMI, especially for this price.
I'd have to agree with other reviews on the interweb that the blue horizontal fascia led is way too bright, but that's a minor problem considering the rest of the features on offer.
I purchased this with a HDMI cable, only to find that Toshiba have finally listened to all the complaints about this product, and now include a HDMI cable in the box (and they're making sure you notice by putting a huge sticker on the box telling you this!).

You pays yer money..., 10 Feb 2007
First off this player has a smaller footprint than most and feels very light but then it costs well under £[...].
Mine was supplied with a composite connector which you will have to use to access the player's on-screen menu and then select the HDMI option. If you attempt an HDMI connection from the outset it just won't work.
Set on 1080i via HDMI the picture is pretty good; fine if you must have HDMI but remember it's a basic player so don't expect too much from it.

Toshiba SD360, 29 Nov 2006
Agree with the previous reviewers that picture and sound quality excellent, the bright blue light can be turned off as an option in the setup menu. Unfortunately it defaults to on after switching off the player so needs resetting each time, an excellent player all the same.

Not great., 8 Mar 2007
First off, this machine renders superb picture and sound, much better than any other DVD player I have so far come across, so for that it is certainly worth the price. Sadly, it comes without one of the basic fuctions relevant to all DVD players, and one which has featured on every player I have owned over the past seven years, and the exclusion of which is therefore pretty inexcusable - that of 'resume playback'. In other words, if you are halfway through a movie and for whatever reason you must stop watching the film, and might have to remove the disc or switch the player off, when you re-enter the disc or just switch the player back on with the disc still inside, instead of jumping back to the place on the disc where you left off you must go through all the warnings and screen menus all over again and find for yourself where you last switched off. Pretty primitive for a modern player. And just tonight, two months after I purchased this machine, I am beginning to experience playback problems - discs which I have had no problem with at all before have now got scrambled pictures and are pausing for no reason, etc. All in all, if you are something of a perfectionist like myself, I would seek another brand - Toshiba clearly are not up to scratch.

Great budget DVD upscaler to tide you over, 9 Jan 2007
Great player for the price, and it'll tide you over until the HD-DVD/BluRay battle has died down a bit.
As other reviewers have stated, it's easy to make region free and you can also turn off the annoying blue light on the front by going into the "rating" menu where the parental controls are (you have to do it every time you turn it back on through). Also remember that HDMI is disabled by default so turn it on if you need it, and if you do use HDMI you must set the audio to PCM mode.
Some people have reported regular pauses during DVD playback but this seems to be only on the very early models and the old SD-350E. The new version (which now comes with an HDMI cable) is fine.
