4.0 out of 5 stars Great soulful bluesy rock in the Little Feat and Crazy Horse tradition, 25 Aug 2006
This review is from: Nothing But the Water (W/Dvd) (Dig) (Audio CD)
'Nothing But the Water' purveys a slick soulful ride along the southern swamp-rock highway. 22-year old Grace has that kind of gritty soft but sexy rock chick voice that deserves to be heard. Her band are tight and give her a strong base on which to build, and Grace laces the brew with some classic Hammond Organ riffs. The songs are all good, and the CD has been worth repeated plays.

Think Little Feat or Crazy Horse, fronted by a slightly older-wiser Janis Joplin. The Blues Rock doesn't come much better.

You wouldn't think this was a first studio album, it is a great record, great sound , not over produced. You can feel the passion and intensity in the music and the bands performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars worth buying for the title track alone, 26 Aug 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Nothing But the Water (W/Dvd) (Dig) (Audio CD)
Although it's not unreasonable to compare Grace Potter to Janis Joplin, Grace Slick and other great American female country/blues singers, she is very much her own artist with her own distinctive vocal style. All the songs on this album are self-penned by Grace and the band and I'd be happy to buy the album for the title track alone. Nothing But The Water has more of an intimate, acoustic feel than her other albums which allows the listener to focus on the vocals and musical subtleties. My personal favourite of her albums to date and one that you'd have to be tone deaf not to enjoy.
