4.0 out of 5 stars wide-ranging essays on the women's suffrage movement, 15 Jun 2001
By A Customer
Votes for Women offers an interesting range of essays on different aspects of women's suffrage campaigns of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The text is ideal for introducing the main themes of suffrage history to the general reader, and offers fresh perspectives for those familiar with the history of the movement. The collection of essays addresses a variety of themes within suffrage history, through different approaches; chapters include a biography of Emmeline Pankhurst, a synopsis of local suffrage studies, an examination of the ideas of the suffrage movement and the postwar developments in the campaign. The volume also includes a useful introduction that outlines the key themes and debates in the history of the suffrage movement, which serves as an excellent summary for a newcomer to the subject. The text therefore offers a variety of perspectives, and will be of use to the academic, student and general reader alike.
