5.0 out of 5 stars Great British Comedy
Carry on Admiral is NOT part of the Carry On Series. But stands alone as a great British Comedy. David Thomlinson is super as always. The story is based on two men who after getting rather drunk change into each others clothes. One is the new Captain of a warship the other an MP. Very funny.

A good British comedy film which deserves to be better known than it is. In a sense it is the unofficial first Carry On film, and though not recognised as a Carry On film, I'm sure Carry On fans would love it. The story is simple, two friends a commander (due to take over a navy ship the next day) and his best mate, a junior politician, get rolling drunk (accidentally, of course, for a film from this era) and get swapped with the politician not knowing the first thing about running a ship and vise-versa. Nothing brilliantly original, but very funny none-the-less. Very nice to see Joan Sims (from the Carry On movies) and the gorgeous Eunice Gayson (the very first Bond Girl from Dr No and From Russia With Love) in this film. All in all a very good package, at a very fair price.

Carry on Admiral is directed by Val Guest and is based on the play Off the Record written by Ian Hay. It stars David Tomlnson, Peggy Cummins, Brian Reece, Eunice Gayson, A.E. Matthews and Joan Sims.

Gentle Brit comedy about two old friends (Tomlinson/Reece) who get drunk and swap clothes and end up being mistaken for the other and thrust into working environments totally alien to them. All told it's pretty thin material before the creak of age old stage boards punctures the air. The cast are good value, undoubtedly, especially old warrior Matthews who was 88 when making this film! While the farce jinks are enough to induce smiles at regular intervals. But really it isn't a hidden comic gem from the treasure trove of either Val Guest or 1950s Brit-Coms. 5/10

Footnote: This is not part of the Peter Rogers Carry On franchise.

Typical British comedy of its period, good clean family fun, usual chaos ensures around identity and dressing up.

Not a Carry On film as we know them, but a wonderful example of British Farce, so well done on stage and screen. If one wants to be picky, it is dated, but who cares. The performances are excellent and it is fun seeing the stars of yesteryear.

Although this isn't part of the Carry on Boxset, it should in my opinion, be so. It is very funny, and is well worth watching. I particularly enjoyed the performance of David Tomlinson. Again, it is a fairly uncommon DVD, and I am pleased to have it in my collection.

The only downside, is that there are no subtitles, but I knew this when I got it anyway. The film is of course in monochrome!

Britiish naval comedy, not an official Carry On film with David Tomlinson, Peggy Cummins and a host of Brtitish comedians in Scope and a nice print to boot.

Another of those comedies that the British could do so well back in the 1950s 1960s when many of these came out. Great to see all these on dvd now.

This film is in no way related to the original series of 'Carry Ons' films. Its still s British-made film though with a early cast of stars.
