Warning....this film contains bad movies, very bad movies fortunately 3 of the four movies are fun in spite of themselves so I enjoyed them, if you hate cheesy, trashy films dont buy this, if your a big grindhouse fanatic and enjoy this sort of thing then go for it!
Retromedia have gathered together four disparate bigfoot/yeti movies onto one double sided disc, they are...
1. The capture of bigfoot (1979) An enjoyable slice of hokum shot in wisconsin, this one only has one 'star' to its name George 'buck' flower best known for his roles in some of john carpenters films. In this one some redneck hunters capture bigfoot, only for the beastie to escape and kill one of the hunters. The other hunter, seriously wounded escapes on his dog-sled back into town and starts a rush of greedy rednecks looking to capture the creature and make big bucks. As expected of this movie it's pretty cheap and chearful and many of the performances leave something to be desired. Bigfoot is clearly a man in a bad suit and try as they might retromedia just could not get the print looking decent so it ends up looking like a vhs rip. That said the movie is a lot of fun and doesn't outlive its welcome.
2. Shriek of the mutilated (1974) If I say now that this one was directed by roberta findlay at least a few people will know what to expect, if you don't then what you get is an incoherent and incredibly trashy bigfoot movie that is an awful lot of fun. A college proffessor organises a field trip into the middle of nowhere to look for the yeti, and I bet you can already guess how that turns out! The college kids should have been tipped off by one of the proffessors ex-students having a total hammy breakdown at a swinging party, "oh god! he promised no more field trips" and then proceeds on a long winded rant about the horrors of said field trip! Nontheless shriek of the mutilated is one of Findlays better movies, and unlike capture of bigfoot this one has a pretty good quality print as well, and the trailer is literally the only extra on the disc.
3. Search for the beast (1997) oh dear, and it was going so well. Cult producer/director David f friedman guest stars in a bigfoot movie that looks to have been shot on a camcorder by hillbillys looking for a few laughs. The plot (i use this term loosly) involves a bunch of hillbillys looking for bigfoot, with intermittent cut in scenes of bigfoot dragging some white trash bimbette into the undergrowth for rape. The filmmakers cleary have never heard of sound recording and seem to rely heavily on natural sounds caught without a foley (bad idea) bigfoot is THE WORST GUY IN A CHEAP SUIT I HAVE EVER SEEN!! and the film plods along and then just bloody stops, nope it doesent even end, it just stops. Worst film in this collection.
4. The capture of bigfoot (1979) This alleged documentary featuring animal tracker ivan marx see's him tracking bigfoot, and features footage taken by marx of 'the real bigfoot'. Naturally i'm skeptical and the movie is a bit of a plodder with lots of nature footage showing some of the critters marx has tracked. Still it is sort of fun, not as bad as search for the beast but an anti-climax of sorts after the first two movies.
overall then worth getting if your after something trashy and cheap, be warned that non of these films are actually very good and take them in the spitit they were intended and you might end up having some fun though!
