5.0 out of 5 stars One of the 2 best Compilations
To really get a good grounding for GFR you first need 2 of the several compilations available.....

I recommend buying this CD together with 2003's "Classic Masters". Both are remastered in superb
sound quality.

This CD has many of their better offerings but Greatest Hits lacks 2 essential tracks which can be
found on Classics Masters, which...

3.0 out of 5 stars just the way a compilation should not be done
grand funk had two avatars : the early soul/r&b rock and the later pop rock. the two don't mix. if you mix them 1 old number then 1 new and so on as in this cd) you get an uneven feel - not only in quality of recording (old Vs new) but also the nature of the music itself. best way to compile for such bands is to do it chronologically - that way it will pass from old to...

This CD has many of their better offerings but Greatest Hits lacks 2 essential tracks which can be

Once you have these two CDs...... I'd recommend checking out a "Live" album.

Not into grand funk. ?. this is a good place to start, but there are also many more better tracks which should of been selected, what I mean is capitol records keep pumpin out greatest hits and best ofs ,but when I think of all the albums they have made I just think its a dam shame they dont ask the gfr fans for a poll of fav tunes .if you have never heard, little johnny hooker from Shinin on, or save the land from e plurius funk. you aint lived I could go on ,this is a good starter cd but not a brilliant compilation .having looked at the rock champions cd I would buy it then the second and third studio albums!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Grand Funk Railroad, 28 Feb. 2009

If you like good rock'n'roll from the early 70's you can do no better than Grand Funk Railroad. No chart action in the UK but extremely popular in the US with 2 number ones on the Billboard chart -"We're An American Band" and "The Locomotion", both included here. This is quite simply a great collection by a band who symbolises the golden age of rock.

Didn't really know this lot until I heard "I'm in American Band" on Brian Johnson's show on Radio 2 show. Blew me away! 70's rock at its best.
