This CD from EMI has a good and interesting mixture of film music, including the famous Warsaw Concerto and Rhapsody in Blue. These are performed along with three other pieces by the Bournemouth Sympony Orchestra conducted by Kenneth Alwyn. I must admit I have heard better recordings of the Warsaw Concerto and Rhapsody in Blue, with the BSO underwhelming at times. However, it was good to hear them play The Dream of Olwen, Spellbound Concerto and the Cornish Rhapsody. The real highlight, however, was the final piece on the CD, Sir Richard Rodney Bennett's Murder on the Orient Express played on piano by the man himself, with the excellent Orchestra of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. So generally a very good buy and gift for somebody.
