This album is a short but beautiful affair from 1957.Essentially a trio Coltrane with drum and bass, augmented by occasional contributions by the likes of Donald Byrd on trumpet and Red Garland on piano. If you like the album 'Ballads', then this set is for you. Coltrane plays lyrical, thoughtful sax through out and there are a few solos resulting in a slight rise in temperature, but otherwise the mood is calm and agreeably relaxed. 'Lush Life' is a great late night jazz album, beautifully recorded and as you'd expect with any band with Coltrane at the helm, performed with skillful ease.
Where to start? listen to 'Trane's Solo Blues'- a swinging little creation that shows how Coltrane combines feeling with technique without seeming to break sweat,it's a beauty! If you like it, then this album is a must for your shopping list.Recommended.
