5.0 out of 5 stars nuuuuuuuuuumaaaaaaaaaaan
You mention Gary Numan to the non converted and they reply "Oh its that bloke that did cars and crashed planes innit?" Well they have not listened to his last few albums have they? Its been about five years since 'Pure' album and 'Jagged' has been well worth waiting for. Numan style has changed a huge amount over his 28 year career. The pioneer of...

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointingly predictable
Having had to wait nearly 6 years for a new album from Mr Numan, I found Jagged to be a huge let down. There had been a good progression from 1994's Sacrifice to 2000's Pure, but here he dosen't seem to have moved on at all, instead giving us the same industrial/goth/metal stuff he's been peddling for the last 13 years. The main problem is that it just isn't that good...

1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing new, 26 Feb 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: Jagged (Audio CD)
What a massive disappointment this album is, I never took to the Pure album, but considering the huge gap between albums I was hoping for a complete change of direction well Numans written the sequel to Sacrifice with improved production but not much else. ALl the songs are samey, the familiar piano and string sound is here again and Gary cant let go of the god theme. It's become so depressingly dull and predictable with Numan to attack god, what happened to his quirky writing style? one thing I use to love about Gazza was his songwriting even if at time the music didnt stand up that well. Jagged is a mixture of his last three albums. One or two tracks are quite good (haunted and halo) but it all sounds so familiar and lazy actually.

2.0 out of 5 stars Overrated, 19 Feb 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: Jagged (Audio CD)
Whilst Jagged does contain some classic Numan choruses, there is a lot wrong with this album. Lyrically Gary is still having a go at God, and some of the lyrics read like a patchwork quilt of Sacrifice and Exile.
Numans mumbled phrasing on tracks like In A Dark Place just feel lazy and half hearted. Production is much better though thanks to DJ Ade Fenton but even Ade couldn't pursuade Numan to stop using a certain piano/strings patch that he's been using for over a decade.
Haunted is probably my favourite track, excellent choice of synth pads and a powerfull chorus.
Jagged is a strange album it sits somewhere between I Assassin and Sacrifice the latter one of Numans weakest albums in my opinion.
No doubt this record will go some way to satisfying the appetite of the Numan faithfull, but if you're looking for a consistent inventive Gary Numan album you won't find it here.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dull, 19 May 2006
This review is from: Jagged (Audio CD)
It is head scratching the kind of reviews Jagged has been getting on this site and a few others ranging from "awesome" to "best work he's ever done" you know I'm wondering if Numan himself writes some of these reviews, because this record is one of the most boring Numan albums he's ever released.

The lyrics are all over the place, the opening number is so lack lustre I almost fell asleep. The songs sound the same, the chorues sound the same, and the intros are so long you get time to make a cup of tea before anything happens, not that you'd miss much if you went on holiday for two weeks and left Jagged spinning in your CD player.

A poor record considering the huge delay from Pure.

2.0 out of 5 stars same old numan but better production, 20 Mar 2006
This review is from: Jagged (Audio CD)
well numan is back after milking pure's success for some five years(his words not mine).
Ade Fentons production on this album obviously shows what a talent he is,it also shows the albums real lack of good solid songs.
The hooks on the songs are overall very weak, with some really new way of doing the vocals for numan(numan trying new moans and worblings)which is good i think to try,but then thats what this album obviously suffers from,it strongly smells of"lets try this""Lets try that"no-one could honestly say that this is a great or good for that matter numan album.(only a really 1979-80 circa numanoid fan)that would buy a blank CD if numan made it.
However if their production partnership continues im sure they will learn from this and maybe make better albums together in the future.(when they dont have to rush)As i think thats what this album suffers from rushing.(most of the album was put together in 2005 due to unforseen production problems with other producers and sadly it shows.

1.0 out of 5 stars jagged...so dissapointing, 5 Mar 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: Jagged (Audio CD)
thanks gary numan...your numanoids waited near on 6 years for this predictable lazy effort called "jagged". its time for straight talk, right from track one you can predict how the following 60 minites is going to sound, and it sounds awfull. even with production help from the much sort after ade fenton the album goes nowhere.with so much at stake for numan in the coming few months with uk, europeon and american tour dates booked on the back of "jagged" one cant help feeling this could be the end. every track seems to have identical intros, chorus and fade out. "jagged" in my opinion is dull, lifeless and most of all a huge dissapointment to his ever faithfull following.

2.0 out of 5 stars What a shame., 13 Mar 2006
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Jagged (Audio CD)
Years of delay and what do we get? Eleven over-produced tracks that sound like the weakest discarded work-in-progress tracks from the Pure album. Nothing strong, original or involving. A missed opportunity. No wonder my local HMV only had two copies in stock and didn't even bother with it on a listing of the weeks new releases.
