Funny but flawed
on 24 October 2006
I tend to agree with those reviewers who say that this film ALMOST works. The black side of the humour is developed rather uneasily and leads to an ending which is meant to make you shiver and grin at the same time - but which actually makes you think "Hang on - they're soon going to realise that these people are missing and then everything will fall apart." (I won't explain who 'those people' are or else it might ruin the film for you).
The story of a bumbling vicar and his sexually frustrated wife is a tad too hackneyed, but the two main stars do manage to make the premise work .... just.
The storyline is well developed but, once again, I tend to agree with those reviewers who feel that a lot of good possibibilities have been ignored in favour of a pretty linear plotline.
All in all, this is film to see once but when compared to, say, 'Nanny McPhee' it doesn't really stand up to close scrutiny.
