Not enough about the horses and the mounted training
on 11 October 2009
I purchased this video thinking that it would focus primarily on the horses, men, equipment and training of the mounted troop.
IMO, too much time was given over to the armored cavalry training, something that could have been covered better on a Military or History channel program.
I would have preferred to see more of the training of the men who had never ridden before as well as the selection process for the horses. Surely there was much more to be seen as the recruits tried to mount without the aid of stirrups as well as having to undergo the first 3 weeks of training without stirrups. Getting the horses to trot and canter would have made for interesting footage. Too, more time should have been spent on the relationship that each recruit had to build with his mount. Still a good dvd. I wear my Household Cavalry souvenir shirt quite often here in the States. I would certainly like to see a similar attempt made about the US Cavalry -- training, battle and parade formations, etc.
