4.0 out of 5 stars Fast scan with good detection
This is a slick product. It scans very rapidly and is easy to use compared with other spyware products. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is that it consumes a bit too much in the way of resources if you leave it running as a background task, even on a Pentium 4 with 512MB of RAM. But if you just want a spyware program to scan when you tell it to, then this...

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of time and money
I bought this software: installed it and downloaded the updates.

Then the next day I got an alert message saying that the licence was going to expire in 24 hours. I contacted the company GSP and was advised to download the free upgrade- version 5. I did this and it wouldn't run. I kept getting a flashing text message- Spydoctor 3.2 engine is starting up, but it...

This is a slick product. It scans very rapidly and is easy to use compared with other spyware products. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is that it consumes a bit too much in the way of resources if you leave it running as a background task, even on a Pentium 4 with 512MB of RAM. But if you just want a spyware program to scan when you tell it to, then this is the one to get.

I had a problem with a nasty trojan on my machine, which was initially detected and blocked by a firewall. My virus scanner agreed there was a problem, but was unable to remove it, as the trojan kept re-creating the quarantined file. I tried several well known spyware catchers, virus scanners and security suites, but the only one that successfully detected and removed the trojan was the Spyware Doctor.

If you have a spyware problem, you can try the demo of this product first, which will detect but not remove the problem. Definitely a product worth looking at.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wait and see what this gem finds on your PC., 7 Jan 2006

I use ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 6 and a free copy of Ad-Aware Se with all the latest updated spyware profiles.

I take security of my PC and home network extremely seriously, I haven't been bitten with a virus since 2001 when my hard drive got wiped (once bitten...) I run deep scans and virus checks on every pc at least once per week. Everything seemed OK.

Until I ran this application, it ran a deep sweep that took about an hour and located in total 58 variations of spyware (2 keyloggers, 2 backdoor exploits, the list went on and on) I used Spyware doctor to remove the offending files and have noticed a slight improvement in my system process time.

What can I say, I had never heard of this application until it came up in a PC Pro Review stating that if they could, they would rate it 6/5 stars.

They rate the application that highly that its' performance is used to compare against the performance of the anti spyware software that is bundled with all the current Internet Security packages. (none of them can beat it)

Conclusion: With this software and ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 6 I don't think I will be having any reason to worry for another long year.

4.0 out of 5 stars Seems good to me, 30 Oct 2006

Spyware Doctor is huge step up from AdAware which I used to run in conjunction with ZoneAlarm but it seemed to miss things. I tried SpySweeper but it made my system unstable (XP SP2)so I abandoned it in favour of Spydoctor plus Zone Alarm plus SpyBlaster (passive protection) and the combination seems to keep most nasties off my machine.

All the heavy duty active anti-Spware software is very invasive of the operating system (it has to be to provide real time protection - Norton is the worst) and will slow things down on load and, sometimes, while the machine is in use. My solution to the startup problem with Spydoctor is to tell it not to load on Windows startup but to start it manually once statup is complete - it still takes time to load the various real-time protections but it does not interfe with the startup process. All in all, a really good product so far

4.0 out of 5 stars good and easy, 28 Oct 2006

I had a problem with a bug which had infected my home page and kept changing it to their own encouraging me to buy their spyware product as my machine had an infection - of course it had, their program!!!!!!!

was recommended spyware doctor by and friend, bought it, ran it, and got rid of my problem. Very pleased. Only reason not 5 stars is that the are some items of spyware it doesn't yet catch and my other free programme does. Would heartily recommend Spyware Doctor to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not perfect, 18 Oct 2006
This review is from: Spyware Doctor (CD-ROM)
I've used Spyware Doctor for over 6 months. Seems slow to start up but once running is fine. Good detection and removal. Also tried Sunbelt's Counterspy - detection and removal I think is as good if not better, but is more intrusive. Try them both before you buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the job (mostly), 3 Jun 2006

+ Good interface, lots of features, regular updates.

- Slows the pc down on startup (but is fine once loaded), misses the odd tracking cookie that Adaware picks up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Mcafee, 16 Aug 2007
By
This review is from: Spyware Doctor (CD-ROM)
I recently had a virus sent to my computer by email, and nothing would get rid of it. I was considering rebooting the system completely and starting all over again. I had Mcafee installed and it wouldn't detect the virus. I downloaded the free trial of this program and it found the virus, (and many others) straight away and got rid of them. I have now purchased this product and I use it instead of Mcafee. Definitely worth buying.

I bought this software: installed it and downloaded the updates.

Then the next day I got an alert message saying that the licence was going to expire in 24 hours. I contacted the company GSP and was advised to download the free upgrade- version 5. I did this and it wouldn't run. I kept getting a flashing text message- Spydoctor 3.2 engine is starting up, but it didn't start at all despite following all the set up instructions.

I emailed the company again and they advised to change a couple of settings in the MSCONFIG files and Services.msc and told me to contact them if that didn't get it working. It still wouldn't work so I wrote to them again, three more times with the same message and was blatantly ignored. I even asked if they could supply the upgrade on CD and was prepared to pay the carriage costs, but the blanked me completely.

My advice is to stay clear of Spydoctor and any other GSP products. They are obviously one of these companies that couldn't care less about the people (mugs) who buy their software. I may as well have chucked the money down the nearest drain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Damn good piece of kit!, 6 Jun 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Spyware Doctor (CD-ROM)
I am not a computer nerd just a person who uses the internet and I got a malicious hit which the free software did not remove. After some research I bought Spyware Doctor and it cleared the infection immediately. A few months later I got infected by another beast but this time Spyware Doctor did not remove it so I contacted technical support and two updates later it was fixed. What can I say, great product, great support.

It may not be perfect, I'm not clever enough to know, but as far as I am concerned it does exactly what it says on the package and it's now going on my wifes laptop.
