5.0 out of 5 stars Great cartoon fun, 4 Jan 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: Alias The Jester - The Complete Series [DVD] [2006] (DVD)
Alias the Jester was a great little animated series from Cosgrove-Hall (the makers of wonderful 80s cartoons such as Danger Mouse and Count Duckula). The show was about a diminutive space time-traveller, Alias, who crash-landed into the Medieval kingdom of Haughton Bottoms. Befriended by the forgetful wizard, Meredith, Alias got a job as the King Arthur's jester. In each 10 minute episode he would save the day from all sorts of strange goings on (flying vikings, etc.) and would inevitably get fired by the grumpy king at the end of every episode. A great kids show that was recognised with a BAFTA award in 1986. This grown-up kid remembers it with very fond memories. Despite it once being available on video this is the first release of the complete series on DVD. Definitely worth a look if you enjoy Cosgrove-Hall's other cartoons.

Wow! I've been trying to find a record of this series for ages as NO ONE remembers it or seems to have heard of it!

Very funny, though it may seem a bit dated in context with todays fast editing and crazy grpahics, but this was great fun and voiced by the genius that is richard briers!

Something i loved as a child and enjoy now as an adult!

This review is from: Alias The Jester - The Complete Series [DVD] [2006] (DVD)
Alias the Jester features a wonderfully silly collection of anti-sterotypes, mixed with a huge dose of childish fun and adult inventiveness. This was very popular with students when it came out, not just the kids. I saw it because I knew that what comes from Cosgrove-Hall (such as DangerMouse, Count Duckula, etc.) is always worth watching.

The plots are always outlandish, and the supporting "villains" are inspired, including the daft Viking - Eric the Useless, the Black Nadjer, and others too strange to mention. Briers carries off his dual role of stranded space-alien and Court Jester excellently (we expect no less of him - see Rhubarb & Custard Roobarb And Custard Too - Vol. 1 - Here Comes Trouble [DVD] if you still need convincing), and you'll recognise the voices of the King and the Meredith the Court Wizard too.

With a great theme tune and incidental music, an excellent cast of voice-talents, downright unpredictable stories, vivid colours, marvellous artwork, and well-paced: Everything you could want from clean, child-friendly comedy and yet still strong enough to keep the adults laughing along with the kids. You really need to see this series to understand British cartooning at its best.
