And I have used many. As soon as I found out my Salter 9117s didn't actually measure your body fat, water etc by electrical signals (it just works it out -badly- from your height/weight etc) I quickly ordered these.

I was going to wait for the Tanita BC1000 to go with my garmin watch, but they have been waiting for EU approval for ages, so I decided to go with these - oh how glad I am.

They are built very well, the glass is very thick and very well engineered. The buttons are easy to press and it beeps nicely to let you know when things are ready. The screen is clear (although doesn't light up) and I like the way that each measurement is separated with it's own function button. Body fat % and weight are shown automatically and then to get each other measurement you press the corresponding buttons.

It doesn't turn itself off when you are trying to write down the measurements! Hoorah. My Salter showed you a bunch of numbers, then quickly turned to some other numbers, did that twice and shut off. This turns itself off after 60 seconds after a scan if you dont press anything.

I love the separate button per user, instead of pushing one button multiple times to get to the same user (Salter). Also the weigh-only mode and guest modes are god sends. The sensors are practically invisible on the glass, so it looks amazing.

It turns out that this is far more accurate than the Salter (obviously) and the Weight Watchers 8991BU which was 6% out on the body fat compared to the Tanita, which is a huge difference. I tested the tanita by scanning myself in the morning and in the evening after I had eating a lot. The body fat percentage didn't change but the weight did - perfect. It is incredibly accurate and consistent.

The visceral fat and bone scanners, while at first seemingly not necessary I am now highly addicted. I managed to get my Visceral fat down to a rating of 1 via ketogenesis and am keeping an eye on my bone mass, as as you know bone is a living tissue just like muscle, which can be strengthend and weakened just the same.

I highly recommend this for anyone who is serious about tracking their statistics.

Hi there, well - I had read all the reviews and had this recommended to me by people at the Gym... As always, there are some good reviews and some awful ones but you have to always take any review with a pinch of salt I find!

I ordered the BC-543 yesterday and it arrived today; One of the advantages of being on Amazon Prime I guess! I host a Fitness & Weight Loss vLog on YouTube & thought it might be helpful for people to see what comes in the box, how to set it up etc, so you might find the video more helpful than just reading through reviews on here! If you fancy taking a look then head over to YouTube and search for ' Tanita BC-543 Matt Williams Fitness Channel '.

So far, having got the correct settings in to the unit it has given me exactly the same results as the professional body composition analysis machine in the Gym so i'm more than happy with it! It'll mean I can keep track of all the data from my own home & won't have to do without updating it when I can't get to the Gym to get tested! :)

Great service once again from Amazon, Thank you! :)

Solid design and very accurate. If you weigh yourself 10 consecutive times, you will get the same reading (not like other scales).

These scales look good and work well. They have a 3 year guarantee and mine started to malfunction two and half years in. Despite the difficulties that some customers have had in the past, I emailed Tanita and got a reply the same day and a new set of scales sent from Germany within a week. Excellent service!

Nb. It seems that these scales are not keen on steamy bathrooms so maybe store them outside.

Had a Soehnle before this, but wanted something that would show things in a bit more detail as I'd got seriously into getting fit and they had a Tanita at my gym.

I wanted to be able to see the changes in fat and lean muscle after I had got down to a good weight, and also to monitor getting my body fat percentage down further without losing muscle mass.

Plus points:
Looks good, good display, easy & intuitive to use, lots of information
Minus points:
Doesn't calculate ab fat in kg, but as a score
"Equivalent Age" feature stops at 50. Do they think that once you're over the half century you're not interested in fitness any more?
I guess these features may be available on more expensive models, but for the price, I am very satisfied and would buy again.

Bought this scale to help the family get back into shape. I did alot of research and found out that Tanita was one of the best makes for this type of scale. Just make sure you use it on a level hard surface.

The scale is very accurate and is so sensitive that when I didn't work out for a week, it knew! My fitness age had gone up and my muscle mass declined. Truly amazing!

The product is really well built and is stylish as well. So if you after a really accurate scale, that has all the bells and whistles then look no further.

I can't rate it highly enough. It was money well spent and provides motivation to improve your personal fitness.

My brother had one of these until it broke recently so I bought myself a replacement! It is simply the most amazing machine for anyone who has an interest in good health and looking after themselves. So many different results - and yet they accurately reflect how you feel you've done over the course of a week! Truly brilliant!

I bought these scales to replace a set of Homedics BIA scales as I prefer Tanita and these also assessed visceral fat, a feature not available on the older Homedics set. The Tanita ones seem fine so far - easy to access each person's information and a clear display that remains on long enough to allow notation. I can't seem to access BMI though but can calculate this manually so it's no biggie. Would love these if there was a USB port to allow transfer of data to a flash drive for uploading and tracking on my laptop. I bought them form Amazon when they were reduced so they appear good for the price paid.

I bought these scales in July and by mid September they developed a fault that made then unusable. I e-mailed Tanita Europe in the hope there was an easy fix, but the message came back very quickly that I should return the item to the seller.

However, while they worked, these scales were great. They told me how overweight I was (and importantly how out of shape I was too in terms of muscle-bone-fat balance) and that encouraged me to pursue my radical change of diet: no red meat, processed meat, alcohol, dairy, sugary food and drinks, etc, etc... but lots of oily fish, fresh vegetables and fruit. Weight loss wasn't the original reason for the change of diet, I had other medical issues, but getting closer to an ideal weight was a big encouragement to keep going. When you see the results almost day-by-day, and not just on your weight but across a range of measures, it helps keep you going. Well, it did for me!

For that reason, I requested a replacement from Amazon with the same scales (impressively, Amazon processed my request in minutes). I'll be hoping that the new scales will last a lot longer because I can't see a viable alternative for anything like the same price.

POSTSCRIPT: Amazon's return process was impressively efficient, my failed scales were collected the day after I reported the problem, and I had a replacement set of scales the day afterward. I hope they last rather longer than the last set - so far, so good.

UPDATE A YEAR LATER - Well the replacement lasted almost a year, but now it has stopped working completely (initially half the buttons have stopped working). Since I've used this in a bathroom (doesn't everyone?) I will be e-mailing Tanita to see if there is anything they can offer me.
