Top critical review
for memories sake.
on 6 November 2013
This review is specifically for the '03 blue dolphin release which doesn't contain the 5.1 audio mix.,I repeat, not contains the 5.1 audio mix.
So,now we have that point made clearly,I'll start.
The mastering on this disc is really all over the place.,need not worry if you're gonna watch this on an older 4 by 9 screen with standard mono/stereo speakers but on a widescreen via an av reciever may cause irritation... it ain't anamorphically encoded. It ain't pan & scan so will have the letter-box look on the older 4 by 9 screen, but will display black bars to the left & right on the widescreen. You can fill a widescreen by manipulating the screen dimension but alas will loose resolution so considering the tech-specs(even on this '03 edition)boast a 'digital remaster' its 2 stars off straight away... shame!.,but, the image displays some clarity nevertheless so could be worse.
As far as the audio is concerned you get what it says.,a bare bones dolby encode.I will say if you can get the newer 5.1 audio mixed version at a reasonable price then do so.. its just lousy!.,even with my best attempts can only get a stereo mix through my 6.1 receiver, but can at least get that. Its not an enveloping experience so a word of warning if you're buying this for Floyds 'echoes' in the surround you won't get it.
The disc comes with the original sleeve design comprising the yachts/moon/wave.,the newer mastered 5.1 disc won't.,again,be warned here!
.. there are special features but I haven't watched them yet but when I do will update this review.
