4.0 out of 5 stars Bobby Rydell Goodies
A very good collection of Bobby Rydell original recordings, mainly from the era 1959 - 1964, including such major hits for him as "Kissin' Time", "Sway", and "Forget Him", as well as "Do The Cha Cha Cha" and "Volare". Conspicuously absent, alas, is "Door To Paradise" - a great pity, as this would otherwise be a truly comprehensive set of his hits, with many good...

3.0 out of 5 stars Bobby Rydell
This is not a very good quality recording. His chat at the end is irritating to say the least. Not my favorite and a bit of a dissapointment really.

Conspicuously absent, alas, is "Door To Paradise" - a great pity, as this would otherwise be a truly comprehensive set of his hits, with many good B-sides as well. The CD includes a nice little booklet about the man and his music.
Delivery was swift, and the condition of the item excellent.

Shame it took "Cameo Parkway" 45 years to release this CD. If they had of waited any longer we would have all been dead from old age. 5 Stars for the Artist. 0 Stars for "Cameo Parkway". Sound quality is very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars FORGOTTEN STAR OF THE SIXTIES, 4 Feb 2012
This review is from: Cameo Parkway - The Best Of Bobby Rydell (Original Hit Recordings) (Audio CD)
I always felt that inside Bobby Rydell there was a big star, such as an Andy Williams or a Dean Martin trying to get out, but never quite made it. There can be no doubt that Bobby was a superb pop star, listen to "I`ll Never Dance Again", reflecting the dance craze of the Tango at that time, "Butterfly Baby" a bouncy upbeat number that you could not get out of your head, once you heard it. Then we had "Wild One", "Volare", "Sway", "Wildwood Days" and "Forget Him". His last hit, albeit a minor one, was in my opinion, the best version of "A World Without Love".

A very under-estimated singer, in the UK, who deserved much more success than he actually got. You should enjoy this, I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bobby Rydell Hits CD, 7 July 2011
This review is from: Cameo Parkway - The Best Of Bobby Rydell (Original Hit Recordings) (Audio CD)
Old late 50's early 60's recordings well preserved on this digitally remastered CD. Much cheaper to purchase this CD from Amazon than to download from itunes and you have added benefit of info re the tracks.

This review is from: Cameo Parkway - The Best Of Bobby Rydell (Original Hit Recordings) (Audio CD)
Bobby had a successful chart career spanning the years 1959 to 1965, scoring 30 entries in the US, 6 making the top 10: We Got Love, Wild One, Swingin' School, Volare, The Cha Cha Cha, and lastly, Forget Him, written and produced by Tony Hatch and recorded in London, which made number 4 in March 1964. This compilation includes all of these and most of the other hits, except The Fish [no great loss], though its B-side, The Third House is here. There's also his version of A World Without Love, which entered the chart on the same day as Peter & Gordon's version, but stalled at number 80, while theirs shot to the top. If he'd been able to tap into this British connection a bit more, I suspect he would have continued having hits, but it didn't happen. It's all pretty unchallenging mainstream pop, but Bobby handles the songs with great panache and enthusiasm, and his voice is good. It's great to have these songs all together on one CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not now but then, 3 May 2008
This review is from: Cameo Parkway - The Best Of Bobby Rydell (Original Hit Recordings) (Audio CD)
Actually Bobby Rydell has seen all this music released before in the UK where there was a series of Cameo Parkway LPs each devoted to a different act except Question Mark & the Mysterions.
Thus no original albums have been issued so far on CD other than the recent twofer on Ace-Sings the Great Ones/At the Copa.
No doubt the 2 volumes of covers will follow as Ace has now got the license which was held up so long because of Allen Klein. The time is now right with the increased collectabilty of high school pop
What made Bobby Rydell last as long as he did was his willigness to record the Great American Songbook which gained him a whole new audience who would never have even heard of high school.
Yet few would have given him 5 minutes after the initial singles on the Veeko label
